My nearest city produces the famous GSC bullets, but also Capstan Bullets, made in a room off the man's house.
These bullets are very decent and also very good value, being cheaper than most others. A similar situation occurs in various other cities in South Africa.
I am curious: are there also small-time bullet-makers all over the US and do you support those from your local town or city?

At least at one time, quite a few individuals in the U.S. made jacketed bullets at home. Many of these guys sold some of their products to locals, and some sold them nationwide as well.

However, since the passage of the Gun Control Act of 1968, it has become necessary for those "in the business of" making components for sale to others to have a federal ammunition manufacturers' license. So today there are less people selling their products to others. The same law applies to handloaders who want to sell their stuff to others.

We can make all the bullets we want, and load all the ammo we want, but can't sell them unless we get a federal license.

Thanks, LBJ!!

The Volkmer-McClure act removed the federal restrictions on making bullets and buying, selling or storing reloading supplies. (State laws vary on storing powder and primers.) Many BR shooters make their own bullets. Some sell bullets to other shooters and some do not. I make 30 cal. bullets for a fellow shooter and my wife and me. I make 6mm bullets for our personal use and for sale to others. Setting up to make BR quality bullets requires expensive dies, presses and punches. Setting up to make hunting quality bullets is not as expensive. The jackets, and lead core making wire, are very expensive and have doubled in recent months.
