I currently own a CZ 550 in 9.3x62, and would like to expand my 9.3 arsenal. I've heard that this cartridge is a real thumper. I'd like to hear from anyone out there who has one and what their experience is with it. What kind of rifle is it, where did you get it, etc.? The other thing I would like to know is where to find the brass and the dies for it. I've heard that RWS makes brass for it but I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Also, is a rechamber from 9.3x62 to 9.3x64 a difficult operation? What is involved with this process.

Any help, pics, links would be appreciated thanks.

The 9.3x64 is a great cartridge, mine is a custom mauser 98,stainless barrel, synthetic stock, sights and a 4x weaver. It shoots into 11/2" all day long.I shot a decent bull moose with it last year-286gr partition around 2550fps it rolled him upside down at about 140yds.It will also spit 270gr speers at 2650fps.Brass can be alittle difficult to find but not to bad.RWS can be had at old western srcrounger I believe.Rechambering from the 62 to the 64 is easy-open bolt face slightly and rechamber, feed rails might need alittle work but maybe not.If I could have one cartridge for big game this would be it.

I am going on memory here, but I believe someone on this board, or maybe it was Huntamerica, rechambered their CZ550 9.3x62 to x64 and did not have to do any magazine or feed rail work. I also have a 9.3x62 CZ550 American, it came with a Pachmayr Decellerator recoil pad and 2 cross bolts...

That would be me. I had my CZ rechambered to the 64. Slight boltface work is all that was required. That was about two years ago. HDS does brass also. Bob

Well

Brass for 9,3X64 can be made by turing off the belt from a 338 win and then re-cut the extractor groove. RWS, Horneber are the only European makers I know of.

I know people who have re-camberd original mausers and only had to make slight modifications to the box.

I guess Harald Wolf has written a few articles about the 9,3, you should find something there.

When you are done with the 9,3X62 and 9,3X64, I suggest you get a 9,3X70 [Big Grin] [Eek!] [Razz]

Yes that is a simple conversion and little if any rail work needs doing most of the time...

Brass has become readily available from Huntingtons with the advent of Horneber brass as I understand....RWS also makes brass for this excellent caliber...

VFR, I knew I had seen that someone had done the conversion with no feed rail work, I just was not sure if it was on AR. How many rounds of x64 fit in the magazine? 4?

Gentlemen

sorry for blowing your mind [Big Grin] the 9,3X70 is a 9,3 based on a 404 Jeffery case. This round was invented before WW:2 but never made it in the long run [Roll Eyes] .

Click on guns and then 9,3X70 to download part of the article. Don't blame me if you feel the need for a new caliber after reading the article [Big Grin] [Eek!] [Razz]
