Any 27 Mag, 150 grain bullet in the right spot will take down the largest bull elk. Problem is you need a clean broadside to plant it. The 30 Mag with heavier bullets, particularly 200 grain will offer better success on angles to penetrate through frontal, rear or angled off-shoulder shots. This is what sets them apart. The 33 Mags to even a greater degree over the 30 Mags. If I were interested in an all around short 30 Mag I would go to the 30 Rem SAUM. Comes in a nice tidey package in the model 7 carbine. Has been shown to be more accurate and produce slightly less recoil than the WSM versions.

I would seriously doubt that the 30 SAUM have been shown to be more accurate than the WSM's. I've had 2 Model 7's and they weren't in the same ballpark accuracy wise as the 6 WSM's I've had, nor is my buddy's Remington Custom shop model 7 300 SAUM. As for the rounds they are still new enough to be roughly equivelant accuracy wise. The WSM is a little faster, the SAUM will feed better in an automatic. The WSM's are much more popular and easier to find ammo for. - I don't mean to disagree with you on everything here Rossi, but I do think you're dead wrong about the SAUMS being more accurate........DJ
