As you will remember Remington made some ammunition in 30-06 and 308 loading a 55gr .224 bullet in a sabot. I used some in the 30-06 and one lot didn't shoot at all well and the second lot shot about 50mm at 100 m greoups, only it was a metre high compared to my normal load (or something like that). Has anyone tried sabots and how did they perform? Has any other manufacturers made sabots - ammunition? Reloading sabots - anyone done this? Can you still buy sabots for reloading? Any other calibres - eg a 30-06 shooting a .243 bullet, or a 375 shooting a 243 or whatever? Do you think the idea was killed off because then shooters wouldn't need 5 different calibres? Comments appreciated.

Hello John, I can only tackle one of the questions. The sabots and bullet seating die (into the sabot) are still available for reloading, try www.eabco.com . The only sporting caliber that I have ever seen them in is .308, factory loaded in 30-30, 308Win and 30-06 Spr. Regards, Bill

My brother has been shooting some 55gr and 75gr A-Max .224's in his 300WSM. Don't know where he's at on load development right now, but he was between 4100 and 4500fps with the loads we tested last week. It's a 22" '06 takeoff barrel and I don't know what twist it is yet. Accuracy was undetermined yet, we were just checking for psi working up loads at close range.

Nitro,my brother in law and myself use EAbrown's sabot kit and load the 55 grain flat base 223 bullets in the 30 carbine,so far not real good groups but still working,if you try Mikes papge at www.reloadammo.com, there is a section on reloading sabots for just about any 30 cal weapon, will use his info next in working up a load in the 30-40 Krag.
