Hello all, Been a damn long time since I visited here. A kid, and one on the way, will do that. Anyway, I wanted to get your opinions on the FN in 308. Is it a good rifle? Worth the money? I wonder if a similar Savage wouldn't be a better deal. Thanks, GFP -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* When I mention a cartridge, the rifles involved: 22LR Cooey SingleShot | 22 Hornet 40sCZ | 223Rem CZ 527 Varmint 30-06 Husqvarna Sporter | 300 WinMag A-BoltII S/S BOSS | 458 WinMag Ruger #1

The Savage will be just fine. I love Winchester Model 70 actions, but the Savage will be accurate and reliable. CDNN has the FN Patrol rifles on close-out. If they are priced down with the Savages, then hey, go fer it. If they are priced twice as much, buy ammo. The FN might well require a bit of tweaking. If you really like Model 70 actions, wait until the present mania dies down (about four seconds after another manufacturer takes up the mantle), then buy a used beater, have Jim Kobe square it up for you and throw on a Krieger barrel and your favorite flavor of McMillan stock, then start banging laRue sniper target plates at 1,000 meters: Bang!..............Clang!!, repeat. Look at the Remington LTR...mine shot 3 shot .4" groups right out of the box with Federal 168 Match. With 165 SST Hornady handloads it is running .35" at 100 yards. At 300 groups have been running 1.75". Bob

I'd go for the Savage. The FN's are nice, but I don't think they'd be any more accurate than a Savage heavy barrel.
