Two weeks ago a friend of mine was bragging about his new driver. Said he was hitting the ball consistently 300 yards. I didn't mention it at the time but his comment got me to remember an article by Jim Carmichel. Jim's article was on a 223 wildcat he was developing on a necked down 308 target case. The round turned out to be real accurate. And I remember him writing about some golf buddies that were bragging that they all were hitting their drives 300 yards. Well Jim's response was the he had a rifle that could hit a golf ball at 300 yards! So I set out a sight in target and a golf ball at 300 yards this Saturday at the range. ________ Ray

Hey Jim C., I've got a 270 that can hit a golf ball at 300 yards! Here's a look at the target: Only took 6 shots! The rifle was already sighted in at 300 yards from a previous mess'n around session. The first shot was the one that clipped the 9 ring at 5 o'clock. It had not been cleaned so I fired a second shot w/o adjusting the scope setting - it clipped the 8 ring at 7 o'clock. When up six clicks and hit the 9 ring on the left. When right 5 clicks and up 1 more and hit the 10 at 2 o'clock. So back 1 to the left and I was there. Hit that golf ball at 4 o'clock just like you see it oriented in the pic. It jumped up and left about 15 feet. Figured it was shot all to pieces. But found just the small dent where the bullet hit it and the cover cracked around to the backside where it exited. I realize it was only a glancing hit but that is one tough cover on the ball! I'm going to keep some golf balls in my range box and keep trying to get a better centered hit. Saturday at the range was fun. ________ Ray

I have always thought that golf would be more fun if we could play with rifles!!! ______________________________ Well, they really aren't debates... more like horse and pony shows... without the pony... just the whores. 1955, Top tax rate, 92%... unemployment, 4%.
