If they were comparable to the Matrix bullets but with Woodleigh hunting performance I'd consider rebarelling my 270 Weatherby Mag wit a 1 in 7" twist barrel.

Chuck

As with most, if not all, rifles Chuck you can certainly agree one rifle may prefer one bullet while another rifle may not. Best to ask one's rifle what she thinks...

Chuck, you know better than to ask that question. It depends on the gun in question regardless of all the answers you get referring to there guns.. shocker

Most Woodleighs shoot great in most guns. Not sure about a 1x7 twist however.

I’ve got a Krieger 5R 8 twist barrel on order for one of
my .270 Winchesters and the Woodleigh is high on my priority list of bullets to try once it’s complete.

I plan to have the caliber engraved as 6.8 x 64 to fill the gap in my medium for rifle battery

Well, that 1/7 twist will stabilize a heavier bullet, I never gave it any thought using it in a 270. The same principle, it works great in a 22-250 AI using the Sierra 80 G.

tree e'm it would be a 6.8 X 61.
a 6.8 X 64 would be the 7 mag case necked down to 270.

2.55" case length is just shy of 65mm. Seems to me "6.8x64" or "6.8x65" would be appropriate.

I shot some deer with my 270 and the old 170 Speer RN, now discontinued, and it shot great and killed very well indeed, If the woodeigh is a RN or a short bullet it would probably work I a 1x10 twist, that was the twist mine had, but then again it might not..

Your only reasonable option is to buy a box, load up some likelys, and head for the range. tu2

accurate enough. In my former Lilja barrel 1:10 in .270wea they printed within a silverdollar at 200 meters. Vo 915 m/sec. Load was 69 grain Norma MRP with FED215 and Norma brass.

I got some Woodleighs, mainly so that I could have something comparable to the old Barnes (original) 180 grain roundnose. They shoot fine in our Tikka 270 Win. Accuracy and stability are good. It's Stability Factor is 1.48, which is more than adequate for anything one would use a 270.

My main problem is finding a good use for a 180 grain bullet in 270. (I think we shot some warthogs and oribis with the old 180gn Barnes 35 years ago.) The muzzle velocity falls down into the 2600+ range (e.g. 2650fps). Even with its good BC it drops fairly rapidly and was not the best choice 200-400 yards in pre-rangefinder days. Nowadays its hard to give up the punch and versatility of a 129gn at 3100-3200fps that penetrates without losing any weight. Even back in the 80's it was hard to wonder why one would leave the 130gn and 150gn NP for general plains game. Those NP did whatever was asked of them well, although we recovered quite a few because they often lost 15-30% of their weight, something the new 129gnLRX doesn't do. Even the 110gnTTSX just leaves an exit hole for better blood trails.
