Yes, you are right about that. My first concern is the chamber's acceptance of factory ammo. With that settled, if I run into issues with sizing the brass properly, with off-the-shelf FL dies, I'll just have to deal with it. Right now I'm not sure how to deal with it after the fact. I think I know how to deal with it in advance, but I need several fired cases from another rifle. Probably one with a fat chamber would be nice. I could then FL size the brass, and compare it to the new factory ammo. If some specs of the FL sized brass is a little bigger than the factory stuff, then make the chamber fit the FL sized brass. If the factory ammo is bigger than the FL sized brass, then make the chamber fit the factory ammo. At this time, that seems like the solution. So, an offer of some fired brass would be appreciated. I could have some factory ammo, such as Prvi, sent to a nice fellow to shoot some, and send me a few pieces of the brass, and keep the rest. Just make a chamber cast of a set of RCBS dies and compare them to the loaded ammo. I am sure the dies will be small enough to work with your fired brass. As far as the reamer goes there are some erroneous chamber drawings out there. I believe that Mike at CH has some old Kynoch drawings that may be more accurate. Be careful about the dies you use. I have used several brands that dimensionally not right on the headspace length. I have a number of the 91 Mausers and one 1909 that have correct headspace. I could send you some of my fired cases or fire some of yours. Your choice. I can also share some of my notes about my dies, rifles brass and headspace. | |||

The barreled action cam back from the gunsmith today. The barrel is still in the white, and needs to be inletted and bedded into the Fajen stock. Tomorrow, weather permitting, I plan on dropping the barreled action into a Hogue stock for test firing. I've got five different boxes of factory ammo, and two different handloads to test. I ended up having to buy a reamer from JGS, and it took a while for delivery. The reamer maker and I pondered the matter over the phone and by email, which required some studying re specs. As it turned out, it's not SAAMI nor CIP. It has a relatively short throat, and tighter specs, but still allows factory ammo and the use of std RCBS dies. I put it on one of my best FN actions, with all the upgrades - MK X bottom metal, NECG trigger, LaPour safety. It's a beauty, and feeds and ejects perfectly. It will be my pretty rifle when it's wearing the Fajen stock. The barrel looks really good, and the lands look strong - not shallow as they sometimes appear in buttoned rifled barrels. The face of the receiver was squared, and the lugs lapped, so both make contact. It's a dandy, and turning out to so far exceed my expectations. I'm sure it will be accurate, but I can hardly wait to try it. I wish I could post pictures, but my computer quit reading the drive where the pictures are downloaded. I'll run by radio shack tomorrow and pick up another of the adaptors, and maybe I can post pictures later.
