Getting rid of the non shooting 7mag not worth the work to make it accurate going to probably get a 243 shooting 300 yds or less in this area 170 lbs would be a big buck. Would like to load it with 85 gn Barnes or bergers any input would be welcome

Do you want input on a brand/type of rifle, or load info for .243?

I was thinking of the marlin x7 or the tikka if I can get the extra money. But I can use some load info

the Tikka 'guarantee' 1 MOA, which is pretty good for an inexpensive factory rifle. I've had three, a Hunter and two stainless Lites. All three produced under MOA. My wife's first group with her new 270 turned in a .47" group (handloaded 110 gr TTSX, 3430 fps). It stays under 1MOA when she does her part.

On loads with a 243, check out the 80 grain TTSX. Ammoguide.com and Hodgdon Powder are two good places for comparing lots of loads.

For my money I would get a 700Rem and top it of all Leupold

I love the older 700s but wouldn't buy a new one. I'd buy a Weatherby Vanguard II Sub MOA in 240 Weatherby.

Of the two, I would not hesitate to purchase the Tikka. Excellent accuracy plus it feeds, extracts and ejects like a rifle should. My son hunts with one in .243 and we have no complaints, it was a great rifle for the money.

BTW, since your old 7mag rifle is not worth fixing, I'd be happy to relieve you of it.

The 7mag probably will need work to the stock or a new one. I have put 200 rounds thru it. Trying differnt things I have never had this much trouble before it may need a barrel I don't know bit I am done with it

What rifle is your 7

It is a wetherby vanguard 7 rem msg with the wood stock. I probably messed it up by floating the barrel. Others have told me it neede the pressure of the ribs at the end of the stock. But I put some shinms back in with out much difference

get a stevens/savage 200 and put a rifle basix trigger in it

Will that trigger work in the savage edge I have one in 223 I have smoothed it out some but a good trigger would be great as that rifle shoots great .

The wife and I killed a lot of whitetail deer, and she killed several antelope, and some big mule deer as well with the 243. We always used either the 100gr Sierra SPZ or the 95gr Nosler Partition.

For us the 243 killed like lightening.

I moved her up to the 308 when we got on a deer lease that had some big pigs...

I load my 25/06 with 100 gr Sierra ProHunters, it works well on deer, and coyotes. I've loaded a few 110 AccuBonds and they are very accurate as well. I use Accurate XMR4350 powder and Rem 9 1/2M primers.

Good luck with your 25/06, I think those 75 gr bullets are intended for varmints though, not deer.

I'm not going to hunt with those 75 gn bullets. It was all they had in stock. I am going to pick up a set of die tomorrow will look for bullets then

I have several "deer" rifles but my 25-06 remains one of my favorites. I'd probably recommend a bit heavier bullet than the 75 gr. for deer but, it would probably work well for varmint. I've had good luck with both 117 gr. Rem Core Lokt's and 110 gr. Nosler Accubonds. I'm currently reloading using the Accubonds over H4831sc powder.

I would get the Tika if accuracy is your main priority. My T3 in .223 shoots two different factory hunting rounds less than MOA. I heard a lot of positive reports about great accuracy with these rifles before I bought mine. I can say that mine did not disappoint.

Ok, to squelch the mystery, what brand/configuration is you new deer slayer?

I got the marlin xs7 25/06. I shot 10 rounds theought it yesterday of winchester bullets it was pretty good. I like this rifle I am going to get another just like it as I have 2 grandsons if it shoots a bit better I may get a third one for me if not I will get a tikka for my self. But I will say this is a good rifle for the money

The Marlin X7's are great rifles for the price. I had one in .270 and it shot great, so I expect your .25-06 is no different.

Shame you couldn't get that Vanguard to shoot, I think this may be the first time on AR I've heard about one that wouldn't even with some work. I had issues at first with my Vanguard, but after glass bedding the action the groups shrunk down to .4-.7 consistently, with a high .2 thrown in for bragging rights haha.

I have heard a lot of good things about that Marlin as far as accuracy. Just gonna have to play with the loads to get it where you want. Great choice on the 25-06. I think if I ended up moving some place where deer were all I really hunted, that would be my pick.
