.......and I concur.

A couple weeks back I posted looking for input on the Weatherby Vanguard Youth Compact -vs- the Remmy 700 SPS Youth. Yesterday we went to the shop and both got to handle and inspect the two rifles. For my choosing, I assumed both to be quality rifles and started counting the "pluses" & "minuses" for each. Here's what I found.

Minuses for the Weatherby:
-The safety locks the bolt.
-The recoil pad is not as cushiony as the Remmy's

Pluses for the Weatherby:
-Controlled round feeding.
-Floorplate release outside trigger guard.
-SMOOTH action.
-Comes with youth & adult size stocks.
-Guaranteed 1" 3-shots
-Free floated barrel.
-Adjustable trigger.

Minuses for the Remmy:
-Push feed.
-VERY sticky bolt.....even for me.
-Grooves in the forend & grip to collect dirt.
-Floorplate release inside trigger guard.
-Pressure point on barrel.

Pluses for the Remmy:
-Sims recoil pad is sweet.
-Slightly less expensive.
-Adjustable trigger.

I went into the shop figuring to come out with a Remington......just my gut feeling. My girl overwhelmingly liked the fit and feel of the Vanguard. I agreed.

I hope she enjoys it for many years. Thanks for the eval but the truth is SHE likes it,she chose it, and that is the most important thing of all. By the way, how old is she and what cal is it?

Yep. That was the #1 criteria. But even a little kid could recognize the better rifle of the two.

Strut10, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Weatherby Youth model does not come with the Weatherby sub-MOA guarantee, it's 1.5" with premium or weatherby ammo. And to the best of my knowledge, Vanguards have always been "Push feed", and nothing on their website says anything different. And isn't that rifle "Made in Japan"? Or are they making all Weatherbys in the USA, now? I'll have to see if Gander has one of them in stock, so I can check em out. Jay
