I am experimenting with reloading the Model 600 in 350 Mag and I have several loads to try...

I am interested if anyone has any info on Overall Cartridge Length with respect to this rifle.

The max length is 2.8 inches(Speer#13) but I have seen some data that looks like some guys will load to 2.73 OAL??

I actually received some ammo for the rifle by the owner and he has it loaded to 2.70 OAL. That is a 250 gr Speer Spitzer, 54 gr of IMR 4320, CCI magnum Primer and 2.70 OAL.

I never got a chance to ask him why he seated the bullet so deep. I loaded some dummy rounds at 2.78 and loaded them they fed fine and I didn't get ANY resistance when closing the bolt.

Is it NOT better to be a close to the rifling as possible for accuracy?

Just trying to save myself a little time and extra headache but I might just have to try a VARIETY of bullet depths to find the best accuracy for my rifle....

up to 250 grainers i always set at 2.8". never had any problems and always shot very well. the chamber is cut for a 2.8" magazine. no need to make things worse by increasing the jump to the lands..................

I load my rounds to 2.75. I generally use Barnes 180 X or hornady 200's. Never tried 250's-- My rifle is one of the Remington 700 Classics from the early 80's.

When I had my 600 I could load the Speer 250 gr bullets with a col of 2.82" before I had problems. My current 350 Rem Mag is built on an 98 action, and I load out to 3.26" (if memory serves, and this allows me to get 2600 fps with the 250 gr Speer with no pressure signs. Basically, the ballistic twin of the 35 Whelen AI (at least the one I have). Very good cartridge tho'. - Dan
