Thanks.

Oldun,
The 2002 catalogue lists the M 70 Classic Featherweight (Blued, not stainless)in 7mm-08, at 7 lbs nominal weight. Have you found one? If so, buy it. my 6.5 is a sweet shooting little deer slayer for my wife (under 1/2 inch for some loads).
Good hunting,
Graham

I'd second that wisdom, fast and furious!!!

A 7/08 is a hard item to find.. that and a 6.5 x 55...especially in Stainless...

I love a featherweight... I have 3...

223, a 7 x 57 and a 6.5 x 55, that I had rebarreled, from a 30/06...

I'd love a short action one ( so that I wouldn't have to mess with my 223 one..) so that I could have a switch barrel set up, chambered in 243, 250 Savage, 260 Rem and 7/08...

oldn...I just picked up a "Classic Compact" this week in 7-08 (blued&wood)...looks just like a Featherweight except it has a 20" barrel and a shorter forearm to match...on my cheap scales with Weaver bases it weighed 6 1/2# or 3 kilos...neat little rifle.. Smiler

I have one of the Classis Compacts in 7mm-08, and one in 308. The 308 has been my favorite for the last several deer seasons. Both shoot well for my eyes and 4 power scopes. It was also made in .243. My best friend has been eyeing my 7mm-08 for his grandson. The 308 has a one-inch recoil pad to extend the length of pull. I got about 2450fps out of the 7mm-08 and a max charge of H4350 and 175 grain hornady spire point.

I got a Classic Compact in .243 right after they announced they were stopping production of the Model 70. Mounted a compact Leupold 2-7. Great little light weight rifles that shoot very well.

Here's a featherweight.. originally chambered in 30/06 with a factory laminate stock..

it has been rebarreled with a 26 inch Pac Nor barrel, with a one in 7 twist chambered in 6.5 x 55 Mauser...

the scope is a Leupold 3 x 9 with a Heavy German Number ONE reticle...

it was built for open country hunting for antelope and mule deer...hence the longer barrel...

the longer barrel also gets some velocity added to many loads... like 3250 fps with a 120 grain ballistic tip or 125 grain partition...

Seafire, if you don't mind what load are using to push 120 NBTs 3250? I use 120 NBTs in my Sako 6.5x55 for antelope, but I get about 3000 with a 23 inch bbl. Lou
