Hello members - Would anyone have any experience/opinions with the Marlin MR-7 bolt action rifle? Was it available in any short-action cartridges? - I am only finding them in 25.06, 270, and 30-06. Thanks.

Marlin never got enough sales to go beyond the calibers you mentioned. They're fairly nice for the times and the money but discontinued and parts are going to be a long term problem. I saw four total, all but mine shot OK. When I tried to slug my 30-06 barrel to see what was going on, a brand new NECO 30 cal lead slug fell all the way through the barrel without engraving . I guess a .311-.312 barrel got in the mix at the supplier. Don't pay a whole bunch; it's unlikely they will ever become a cult gun or collector's jewel.

I received a MR-7 in 270 Win as a gift and it's one of the most accurate guns I own (after a trigger job) and a pleasure to shoot. I would've never bought one since I like SS/Syn but it's certainly one of my favorites now.

The 25-06 was asurprise to me.My son has a 30-06,we have a MOA hunting load for it.I ran a bunch of test loads with my Remington and it, to see if I could find a load both were OK with. The Remingtn was a more accurate rifle. When they designed it,they tried for the best features of all the makes. They had to stop because of patient questions.

I have one in .280 Rem. Shoots much better than my 700 Classic in the same cartridge. It wears a Weaver 3.5-10X40 Grand Slam scope. Good solid well made rifle.

Me and a hunting partner picked up one of these each on closeout at Bass Pro Shops back in 2000 for $299.
His in 30-06, mine in 25-06. Both shoot more than adequate for hunting, less than 1.5"/100yds with factory ammo. Seems to be a well made rifle.
