I've seen the CDNN Investments flyer advertising Weatherby rifles in various forms. www.cdnninvestments.com for anyone interested in looking at the same.

Does anyone have any experience with Weatherby factory seconds? Some of these are listed as "Box marked second, gun perfect." or "Gun marked 2 inside receiver, not visible with bolt installed."

CDNN says the accuracy guarantee applies--how far wrong could a guy go on these?

BKoenecke,

Seconds or "Blems" as some companies call them, is a great buy. They have a small flaw usually in the finish of the stock, which does not hurt the performance of the rifle. I have bought a few "Blems" and have had to really look over the rifle to find them. On a Beeman Crow Magnum IV air rifle I saved over $300.00 just because the stock had a ripple in the finish. On a Theoben Rapid 12/250 I saved near $420.00 due to a discoloring in the bluing on the underside of the barrel. I bought a second Weatherby 12 ga. O/U Athena and I still haven't found the blemish in it. I believe they are more than worth the money. Lawdog

I ordered one of these rifles from CDNN. I picked up my Weatherby Super Big Game Master in .280 Rem yesterday. I could find no obvious defects, other than a little blueing wear in the bolt channel. I did find, however, that in addition to the "2" stamped in the stock in the groove below the bolt handle there is a "2" stamped in the steel receiver, at the groove in the tang, which IS visible with the bolt installed and closed.

I called cdnn and told them that their catalog does not list the markings correctly. They said that I could send the gun back if I wished.

I am keeping it, and cannot wait to get it scoped.

The advertised weight for the gun was 5.75#. It weighs 5 lb. 14 oz. (a 30 caliber barrel would likely reduce the weight to the advertised 5 lb. 12 oz.)

KuduKing,

Thank You. I didn't know what the "2" was about. After reading your posts I checked my Athena over real well and found the "2" stamped on the inside of the foregrip. I still can't find the blemish though. Lawdog

Wild One,

Here is thr stuff for Wby Web site. Unless mis read I think the Ultra Light is listed as having special flutes to lighten bolt, all alloy floor plate....Mike

The Super Big GameMaster (SBGM) delivers varmint-like accuracy in the most popular big game calibers. Tipping the scales at just 6 3/4 pounds, the SBGM is built on the legendary Mark V action with a 26" Criterion lapped barrel by Krieger. The barreled action is bed to a specially-designed, hand-laminated, raised comb, Monte Carlo composite stock (a combination of Aramid, graphite and unidirectional fibers and fiberglass) with distinctive black spiderweb patterning. A CNC-machined, T-6061 aircraft-grade aluminum bedding block provides a precisely inletted, solid, stable platform for the action. Also features heat-dissipating barrel flutes, an 11-degree parabolic target crown, Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad and the industrys finest factory-built trigger system.

Our Mark V Ultra lightweight gives you everything a custom-built lightweight does at half the price. It tips the scales at just 6 3/4 pounds, making it the ideal choice for packing into mountainous terrain or for all-day hunts.
Based on the Mark V action, it features a chrome moly receiver, with weight-trimming alloy follower and floorplate. Deepened and widened flutes on the bolt reduce weight, along with a skeletonized bolt handle and bolt sleeve. Weight-reducing flutes are also employed on the 410 Series stainless steel 26" special contour barrel, which features an accuracy-enhancing recessed field crown.
Rounding out the Ultra Lightweight is a specially-designed, hand-laminated, raised comb, Monte Carlo composite stock (a combination of Aramid, graphite unidirectional fibers and fiberglass), precisely-inletted to accept a molded-in, CNC-machined aluminum bedding plate that stiffens the receiver area of the rifle when the barreled action is secured to the block. A Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad dissipates recoil. Flat shooting. Hard hitting. Ultra lightweight. Also available in a left-hand model.

I think that they are idnetical, except that the ss barrel in the SBGM is blackened, and the color of the stock is tan.

In addition, the ULW and SBGM have different muzzle crowns. The ULW is recessed, the SBGM is parabolic. Both barrels are stainless, however, the SBGM is completely blackened, whereas the ULW is blackened only in the flutes.
