Does anyone have one of these rifles? They look pretty neat with a 16 inch barrel and synthetic stock! Looked on the Remington web page and they say ghostring sights but dont say if the receiver is drilled and tapped. I have a 7400 which Ive developed some good loads in 308. Im actually looking for a pump rifle the way the political climate is for semi autos. It probably isnt drilled and tapped as its a close range gun rigged with ghostring sights. But I could do that or have it done. I just wonder about the accuracy with the short barrel. Ive talked to people that really like the regular 7600 and say its accurate with the 22 inch barrel.im also thinking that my mags for the 7400 would work too. I even have a few aftermarket 10 rounds that work. any help from yall would be great PB

I own several in 30-06 and .35 Whelen, I have a 30-06 carbine with synthetic stock and all of them are very accurate and totally reliable even in northern climates. You should have no problems with accuracy.

I've handled but not shot both the 308 and 223 versions. Don't recall if the receiver was drilled and tapped or not. The rear ghost ring is nice but I wish they'd have used a flat topped post front sight instead of the high viz round bead which is harder to hold for elevation as the range lengthens. A 16 inch 308 is going to be pretty loud and the muzzle flash will be wicked but it's a handy rifle.

Im one who likes big muzzle blasts!! Once had a single shot 308 pistol it was a blast for sure.Hey I know about the other pump remington rifles. Just want to know about this new chopped version with a 16 inch barrel. Wonder why a cop would want it with just a 4 round magazine. The after market 10 rounds are basicly unreliable but i have a few that work in my 7400. The new 223 version of this gun accepts ar mags but I hear it has a few problems. The remington guys should have designed it for m14 mags. Thats the only thing I dont like about my 7400 the stupid mag set up with the awkward mag release lever.. This would be a neat 308 if it accepted larger mags and was drilled and tapped for a scope or a holo sight. As it is dont think it will last long.Just some stupid Remington guys pipe dream!!!.

Remington is trying to tap into the Patrol Rifle market by providing departments rifles that ease the transition from slide action shotguns. The magazine issues you mention are a bigger deal on a fighting rifle than on a sporter, which is probably why Remington has never fixed it. As for magazine capacity a reliable 10 round magazine would be much easier to manipulate because it would give a fella something to hold onto, but maybe a patrol officer who needs more than four rounds of 308 needs to call for backup and start concentrating on his front sight while he carefully squeezes the trigger...

Found out it is drilled and tapped for a scope but for $850 or 900 they can have it!! That parkerization looks cheap too just like my 870 el cheapo with el cheapo stock. I think Remington is going down the tubes and cutting corners. Just saw a good vintage 760 from the sixties with a great walnut stock and great blueing . I think I will opt for one of those in 308 and have the barrel chopped to 18 and a half in. Like the other gentleman said I will even save bucks by doing so!m Thanks yall from Kentucky a gun loving state!!

Over the years Remington has offered a carbine version of their pump rifle, with an 18" barrel I think.

I know it came in 30-06, not sure about 308.

Their carbine is 18½", I have 2 but they've only offered them in .30-06.

Look around for carbines. They are out there. I have owned a couple in 308 and I saw an old style in 280 that was original.

I have recently purchase one of these and took it to the range a few weeks ago.The peep arangement is usless. It is so coarse that I could not scare an empty carton of beer at 50 yds over a bench. It was not possible to get the sights on the 12" square target because there was not enough adjustment in them-in short the sights are useless. The cases came out -some with split necks (factory stuff)-and the primers looking like the headspace was "generous".This was meant to replace my 30/30 Win. as a close range pig rifle. It is not even in the race at the moment but I will give it one more run at the range with a scope mounted. Will post the results.

Remington even made a short run of 18.5" carbines in 35Rem available through Grice's.

Well it is a shame that a Company like Remington cannot get something right.

If they would put good iron sights, have it drilled for a pictinny rail for "them" Red Dot sights that are the rage,[they are good Big Grin] and have a quality functioning 10 round magazine, it would make a good 308 patrol rifle.

Also for civilians in states like Kalif.

At least the 223 takes M16 type magazines.

Back from the range today after fitting a spare scope to the rifle.I have to admit the rifle surprised me.With a 6x scope at 50 mts it would put 3 shots into about 1/2".The local range is a 50mt indoor affair so I could not test it out a greater range but it was as good as a flash Steyr Ultralight in 308 I was also sighting in.
Interesting!

Yep I hear that.
For so many years rifle manuf have been making rifles with crappy open sites on em.
You pretty well always have to go after mkt and do it right yourself.
Man it would be so refreshing to see some one get it right for a change.
