About a month ago, I came upon a pre-64 (1962) Model 70 Winchester Featherweight in .30-06. It has been well used (abused?). The previous owner(s) sanded the stock down leaving only a bare semblance of checkering a vibro-graved (lightly) some alpha-numeric characters in the trigger bow and the blueing is heavily worn and needs to be polished and re-blued. I doubt if there is any collector value here. The bore looks good and I've only shot it with irons at a 100 yards but, even with my poor eyes I could still shoot a four inch group. I paid $500 for this rifle but would like to really "gussy" the thing up. I'd like to keep it in '06 and am thinking about a Mannlicher style stock for that 22" barrel. Any suggestions/thoughts? Before I did too much around this rifle, I would scope it and insure that this rifle is capable of a level of accuracy you will be happy with. I like your idea of stacking in a mannlicher stock. With a nice a rust blue, it would be very sharp. BigBullet "Half the FUN of the travel is the esthetic of LOSTNESS" Ray Bradbury https://www.facebook.com/Natal...443607135825/?ref=hl | |||
