I have a Remington 700 in .350 Rem Mag. I have been thinking about loading up some heavy bullets (>250 grain) for fun in mine. Has anybody pushed heavy bullets in their standard twist (1 in 16" twist) 350 Rem Mag? My Load From A Disk version has optimal twist rates between 1 in 15" and 1 in 17" depending on the bullet and the velocity I am expecting. This should work but then again I have read posts about problems with using heavier bullets in 1 in 16" twist 35 Whelen barrels.

.. The 350 is kinda short for the 280-310 gr bullets in .358 . But thge 250 gr bullet was one of the weights it was designed for . .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

You are correct, the 350 RM is pretty stubby for long bullets. My particular 700 has a slightly longer magazine box so I don't have to seat to the standard 2.80" COL. I am trying to turn it into something along the lines of a short action 9.3x62 in 35 caliber. When I pulled figures from QuikLOAD and it projected 2200 to 2250 fps for 270 and 280 grain bullets I have in mind. I will just have to get some bullets and try it out.

I had a 350 RM for a while and I liked it. I have taken a LOT of game with a 9,3x74R, including giraffe [2 shots, 286 Woodleigh Solids], cape buff, [one shot 286 Woodleigh Soft] and an elephant, [one shot 286 Woodleigh Solid, at 5 yards]. My velocities are under 2250fps. So if I was going to try the same with a 350 RM, I would see if 310gr Woodleighs would shoot in my 350. It would be a duplicate of the 400/350 Nitro. However for NA hunting I would probably stick to a 250gr bullet for the big stuff and use a 200gr bullet for deer. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Congratulations on those trophies! That must have been quite some nerve racking shooting with a 9,3x74R on an elephant at 5 yards. I understand your thoughts on the 400/.350 duplicate as I got this bug because I had re-read Taylor's "African Rifles and Cartridges" recently. I saw what he had to say about the 350 Rigby Magnum and the 400/.350 Nitro, and it got me thinking. A 350 Rem Mag in a 22" barrel like mine will get 2,600 fps with a 225 grain so that covers the 350 Rigby Magnum angle without trying. I was going to work my way up in bullet weight through the 270/280 grains versions to the 300+ grain class to cover the 400/.350 cartridge as well. Of course a plain jane Remington 700 in 350 Rem Mag is nowhere near as neat as anything chambering those other rounds, but I wanted to load it up to see what Taylor was talking about all the same. I figure if I can't live it I can always experiment.

I cannot remember what old time hunter it was but he had excellent results on elephant with his 400/350. That book is still packed. I can say one thing, those heavy, high SD bullets at @2200fps or so are very good killers. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

i am on the other end of the spectrum. i shoot smallish whitetails. i use the hornady 180 grain single shot pistol bullet. makes deer crumple.

I'd like to know how your loading turns out. I've got the same rifle, and I love it. I just bought a 9.3x62 cz and intended to sell the 350 due to redundancy, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I guess I'll use my 350 as my dear rifle shooting smaller boolits and my 9.3 to shoot heavier boolitz. Good luck!
