This will be the first year I've used my 35 Whelen. Had it nearly 10 years, but just too many others to play with. What is everyone's take on the Barnes 180 Tipped TSX for whitetails? Only other choice I have without ordering is the standard Remington 200 gr. Core-Lokt. Any thoughts on it? Thanks Ken

Sounds like an excellent combo. There is not a deer from coues to moose that that combo would not put down. Have gun- Will travel The value of a trophy is computed directly in terms of personal investment in its acquisition. Robert Ruark

In my estimation, either will work. Barnes is well known for what they do, but the Core-Lokt probably accounts for more big game every year than the others combined. They just work!

Put in the right place and either one should easily kill any whitetail. Which one is most accurate in your rifle? NRA Endowment Life Member

Either one works. You can shoot a lot more Rem. 200 CL's for the money for practice and load development. They won't need to be going at hyper-speed to work either. If price is not a problem, pick the one the gun shoots best! I shot the Barnes 225 X at 2800 fps for a while and they killed like the hammer of Thor. I use only Cast now in the old Whelen. I killed a very nice 11 point with the 180 Barnes X and a 7600 in 35 Whelen. It works just as well or better than a 30-06.

for deer, even big ones, it would be hard to beat the price an performance of the 200 corelokts.. your prices may vary but down here you could purchase a lot more corelokts for the same price of a few ttsx. I tend to shoot a bit of paper for practise every now an then, or after a knock to the rifle..so I keep that in mind. The Whelens strong point is that it will knock em down with any standard cup an core with authority, the 180s advantage is for longer range on your shot on average.. with practise I don't think the 200gr would be too far below it happy hunting WL
