HERE is an interesting specimen. What do you think, the real deal or gunshop BS?

Are you interested in this rifle? If not, I might contact the seller for possible purchase.
I have been looking for a base to build a 375 X 2 1/2 on. This one looks to have potential.
Thanks

James

I am not interested. I just wanted to discuss it. Go for it if you like it!

Well, from the looks of it, I'd say this is an older (read pre-WWI) Enfield so I personally would not look at this action for any kind of customization. I would purchase this rifle as a collectable Lee-Enfield.

And to further the discussion on Lee-Enfields, I love both of mine. Neither are exceptionally accurate; I bought them mainly to play with. However, the actions are very smooth and feed the rimmed .303 smoothly. I appreciate their "modular" design and the lessened recoil compared to the 30-06 or 8x57JS. They are also fast cycling bolt actions. Lastly, .303 will kill just about anything if you're a good shot.

Those are my thoughts...

Actually, I think it's a Lee-Metford that was rebuilt by one of the bigger-name makers for a British officer headed overseas. That was fairly common. There is a very nice one on Guns America right now if you search for Lee-Metfords.

I think this one is legit - up to a point. It probably began life like the museum piece on GA and saw more of the bush than most. As for the "animal tooth marks" in the description, well, some stories get better every time they're told.

Cool old rifle, though.

I tried to e-mail with questions but GA would not process my request. Maybe it's already sold.

Interesting rifle. It may just be an early model sporterized, or it might be a early custom. I don't have a good Enfield reference to hand and I'd like to check and see if the commercial versions were slotted for the magazine cutoff like this one is.
The animal tooth marks are too much Smiler, the owner probably used the rifle to shoot the dog that made them..................DJ

The rib on the barrel and the front sight look well done, and similar to another I saw by a big name British maker.

If I had the money I'd buy it and restock it, maybe find/make a short mag for it. I think it's well worth the asking price.

Saw one by Westley Richards a few years ago for $700, as rough as this, but they're tough to find.

Let us know if you pick it up, James.

Gidday Guys,

Yep its a butchered Lee Metford. It would make a good close range pig rifle.

Happy Hunting

I assume it has already been sold or removed. All of my e-mails have been refused. I did a manual search on GA and it was not listed at all. The barrel with rib was what I was interested in.
