Anyone who has experience (in the field and reloading) with the 338 Excalibur (which should be somewhat hotter than the 338-378 Wby. Now that A-Square is back I am thinking about a rifle in this caliber..

I haven't fired a 338 version, but the little brother 300 Pegasus is an awesome round. I assume the 338 Excalibur is as good since the cartridges share a common ancestry. I believe that the Remington Ultra Mags wouldn't be around if these two rounds had received more press earlier in their life. A-Square's problems prevented that. Bottom line - for long range shooting of heavy bullets, there is no better choice

Could'nt help it.

I love those fast one myself, but personally I stopped on 338 RUM. If want more punishment I'll grab for my 460.

Hey .460 !!

Have you been shooting your .460 lately ! I was wondering how recoil is compared to the .416 Wby i own,,and weighs 5.2 kilograms.
I am into converting it into the .460 or the .510 Wells Express. I think i'll go for the .460 cause of the bullet availability. And i want a fast barrel,,any suggestions. Ragnar Hansen at Vestfossen is offering a LOTHAR WALTHER BARREL AT 5000 KRONER (for the whole job,,including bedding).
What loads have you got recently ?
I can't wait to see a .460 Wby's muzzle flash when it's dark !! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]
I want to get the 500 gr. hornady to perform at 2650 fps and those barnes 450 gr.Barnes bullets going at 2750 + fps !!!!
GV Custom bullets would be cool to raise performance with. But unfortunately they take your money and get away with it,,at least that was what Ulrik experienced when ordering .577 T-rex bullets !
By the way,,the man is quite extreme in his choice in calibers,,just like me [Big Grin] . I mean the .338 Excalibur ! The most facinating and original case i have ever heard of. The name itself symbolize just all the good things. Case design,,bullet weight (250 gr.)and velocity ( 3250 fps). It can do everything a !! [Eek!] .338 Ultra Mag will do and even Mooooorrreeee !!
The only thing is to have the money and the source (A-square ?).

I have looked at this cartridge before in awe too, just always heard nothing but bad stuff about brass quality with anything from A-Square. Is the other source supplying quality stuff? I might try a barrel out with this if the brass is good. [Smile]

Hello Per577.
I'm with you, when it comes to "the fun of the extreme", but I always think of the practical use when it comes to hunting with my rifles. I already have one rifle only for pure fun, and that's the 460. This is the reason why I stopped on 338 RUM. Thats pretty extreme to I think, then you considering Norwegian hunting.
I havent been shooting my 460 for some time now, because I took of the recoilpad (decelerator) and fitted it to my 338 RUM instead. And to shoot that bitch with only the laminate wood as recoilpad, I think I'll pass. [Eek!]
(remember: NO MUZZLEBREAK allowed!!)

But I think I must add one thing:
If I could do the choice again, I'd go for the 450 Dakota instead. Then you dont have to jerk around with that stupid belt.
But I guess you've already made up your mind, so good luck. [Big Grin]
(and yes, I get a good flash with Norma 15 powder!) [Big Grin]
