I posted on OAL and the 8x60 but now I´d like to here what speeds you guys are getting. I got 740m/s using 3.05 grams of VV N140 and a Norma 196gr Vulcan bullet. A friend says that is the factory speed for the 8x57! Any comments gentlemen?

With 3,50g R907 I got 827sek from a 60cmm/sek. with the 200grs Nosler Part., but the barrel length is 68cm! With 3,56g N550 and the 196grs Norma Oryx I got 810m/sek frm a 60cm barrel!

MF: So the N550 seems to work for you? I´ll be getting a 8x68S in the spring and was thinking that I could settle for 740ms in the 8x60 and press the 8x68 for more. What do you think of this?

My 8x57 "factory" reloads runs little over over 800 m/sec with 53grains vv N150 + a Norma 200 grain Alaska. The 8x60S should do at least 20 meters per sek faster than the 8x57 The rifle is an original Oberndorf mauser model B from 1913. 60 cm barrel DRSS: HQ Scandinavia. Chapters in Sweden & Norway

Seems I´m being overly careful...think I got a scare when some of my 9.3x62 loads came out "a bit" hot (used N130...)

You surely get over 900m/sek. with 200grs in the 8x68S with slow powders like MRP, R905, R22 or N165. The 8x68S is absolutely in an other class than the 8x60S. In the class between this two, you have the 8x64S, with bullets of 196 to 200grs I surely get 850-870m/sek. You are using the 8x60S in a BRNO? I have one too, nice, small rifles!

I am getting 2420 FPS (737 M/S) from my 8X60RS in a double, using 58 grains of RE22. This is almost exactly the same velocity you are getting. Yes, it is in the 8X57JS speed range. I keep loads light out of deference to the old gun. I used to use 55.7 grains of Hodgdon's H205 with the Nosler Partition 200-grain bullet for 2620 FPS (798 M/S), but that powder generated a lot less pressure than any currently available powder, yet gave a higher MV. Perhaps it maintained sufficient pressure longer? I don't know how it was able to do this, just that it did! In a good bolt action 8X60S using Norma MRP1 or Alliant RE 22, I see no reason why one could not safely achieve over 800 M/S MV with a 198-200 grain bullet. The new Nosler 200-grain Acc=ubond should be a very good bullet for the 8X60RS..... "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

MF: Yes it´s a nice little BRNO! Bought it from boha a while back and I´m very satisfied. Keeping the recoil low would allow my sons (13 and 15) to use the gun without needing to be afraid of recoil. ED: I think I´ll stick with the slower load in the 8x60 and go for +/- 900m/s in the 8x68. And I´ll probably keep thinking about this until I get something real to worry about Thankya guys!

I am feeding a SAKO 8x60mm (0.318) and getting 2600 fps using 200 grain Woodleighs and either 49.2gr N203, or 49.0gr IMR-4895. Both loads may be a little hot, as my older factory tables list a 196 gr RN at 2614 fps and a 196 H-Mantle at 2510 fps.

I loaded my Mannlicher 1950 8x60S with 53 grs Norma 203-B in RWS cases, standard primer and 196 grs RN bullet. But I did not measure the velocity. Fritz The true and only Fritz Kraut

Lovely! I've always appreciated those BRNO's! "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

It must have been a great loss Boha. Considering you kept it in bed and everything... Would have been interested in buying it myself. Truly a niece piece.
