I had the best range day I've ever had. I came home and tried to show and explain the groups to my wife. I told her that they were shot at 200 yards. She queried which weapon shot the groups my gun(s) or my new PSE bow, so..............I have to gloat to someone. My first group was a center to center measured .359". This was shot with a .338 Winchester Magnum. The load was 69.0 H4350 and Rem 9 1/2M primers. The bullets were 225 Hornady Interlock seated to the bottom of the cannelure. I was fully ready to pack up and go home to celebrate, but decided to shoot another gun. The second group logged in at .546" with a .350 Remington Magnum. Load was a Hornady 200 Spire point over 60.0 Varget with a CCI-200 primer. OAL was 2.900". I tried one last load of 338 Win. This load was listed in my notes as "magic load". It used 250 Sierra Gamekings. My notes state that the load consists of 71.0 of IMR-4831 atop a CCI-250 primer. Old notes stated an AOL of 3.325". The loads from the range measured 3.345". They shot a group of .246". Again these are at 200 YARDS!

Jesse, I've heard about your 350 RM, but haven't heard the details (model, bbl. length, scope, etc) regarding your 338 WM (one of my favorite cartridges). Want to fill me in? Great shooting "in the zone" as Mark say's isn't it! Regards, Brad

Figured that one was coming, but only after I'd been told I was full of hot gas. The 350 Remington was built on a Savage LH short action. The magazine was lengthened allowing me to seat just under 3.00" and fully function. Barrel is a Shilen match grade at 22". Stock is hand made for Sharp Shooter Supply and can be seen in Lock, Stock and Barrel and is more rigid than any other I've seen. It's pillar and glass bedded. Guy that makes the stock is my gunsmith. Burris Signature Rings and Bases topped with a newwer Fullfield II Burris 3-9X with Ballistic Plex. Also has a Sharp Shooter trigger at 10 ounces. I'll take the hit for it being too light and I'd increase it if I could as I have "worn" the scope twice in the heat of battle. All metal Tefloned by Spradlin's in CO. The .338 Winchester is a Remington 700, also a lefty. This is pretty much a stock gun. It sits in a Bell+Carlson stock that I had glass bedded and then re-did my self after the "pro" got done with it. It wears a Leupold VariX-III 3.5-10X in same rings and bases. I've spent hours with the factory barrel and JB Bore compound trying to remove the copper, which may have increases the accuracy. I've found that this rifle like to shoot clean and have several 100 yard groups near the .5" mark. The 250 Sierra are gone and those were the last few I used for the group. Anywho....Thanks for listening and caring. Lord knows I can't get any from the Old Lady. It's "Just another stupid gun that you won't use". To her the justification of shooting half inch groups at 200 yards mean absolutely nothing. My only dilema is having two kick ass guns in the almost exact same power band. My only goof around type hunt is in Jan for Aoudad in Texas, and my 6.5 WSM will be done next week.......who knows???

As for "being in the zone", a monkey could have done as good of a job. I was on a concrete bench with a cheap pair of sand bags and the Midway platic front deal. I do whoever squeeze the rifles pretty well and use two hands. I place one up on the rest and forearm holding the two together like a billard cue. I think the only trick was having the first windless afternoon New Mexico ever had and letting the barrels cool for a while between shots.

It is a great feeling when you get good groups, I understand with the missus thing and "another stupid gun syndrome"

I can relate, I came home from the range today not too happy with the groups my 22 LR silhouette pistol was shooting and my wife did not see what was wrong at all. I bore my wife with groups all the time, she just sort puts up with me. But, I have to admit she lets me buy about whatever I want. I have to say I am VERY impressed with the groups you are getting at 200 yards. Those are very good groups, indeed. People who do not think big caliber rifles will shoot are just not able to shoot them well because of the recoil. I have a friend who owns a .378 Weatherby; it is hell to shoot,it kicks like the devil, but if you hold it still it will shoot just fine. I do not own a 350 Rem Mag, but my .338 Win Mag is plenty accurate as yours seems to be. I have had great succes with the 250 Sierra over 70 grains of IMR 4350 or 72 grains of RL 19. I more recently have been shooting a 225 Nosler Partition over 72.5 grains of H 4350. While I do not have access to a 200 yard range, the groups at 100 yards are impressive and it certainly shot "minute of elk" last fall in New Mexico. Good Shooting, while your wife may not appreciate it, I am well impressed. R F

Jesse Jaymes, I also have a 350 Rem Mag, in the Rem 700 Classic with 22" barrel, and shoot the 200g Hornady SP for deer. I am interested in the velocity you get with 60.0g of Varget from your 22" barrel. Never tried Varget in my 350 RM as I assumed it too slow a powder. Can you fill me in? So far my best groups with the 200g Hornady have been with 56.0g of Hodgdon BenchMark which gives me about 2,725 fps (58.0g BenchMark is a max load in my gun). I can't wait to get my hands on some of the new Reloader 10x and give it a try in the 350 RM!!! If anyone else gets to try RL 10x first, please post your results.

quote:You are being way too modest, these are not bench rest or varmit guns, thats very fine shooting for big game rifles and a damn sight better than I can do with the flyweights!! Congratulations! Richard
