I bought a pretty new looking one in the box for $650. Not a great price, but an ok price on kind of a rare gun. I am not sure I have ever held one in my hands before. The action is very smooth, rifling looks perfect, stock is without scratches and the blueing is perfect. It was in the box. Trigger is eh ok. It had a 4 power pronghorn on it in Talley ultra light rings. I put a Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10 on it. Kind of excited to see how it does.

My question for you guys is, can I put a 700 trigger in it? I have a couple of decent custom 700 triggers, and it looks similar?

SIR , i have numerous CLRs and yes, a Remington or Timney or any other trigger designed for Remington will fit. They make a really great light weight rig , even if you put a #2 contour barrel in it. Bill

I reckon if it will shoot 1.5 inch 3 shot groups at 100 I'll keep it. If not I'll put a new barrel on it in 280 Ackley. Who did you use to rebarrel it? Is it straight forward, 700 type rebarrel?

Sir, I do my own rebarreling, and not just on CLRs. It is a straight forward process just like a Remington to rebarrel. Threads and shank are smaller by design and you will not find any aftermarket barrel lugs. But that has never been a problem. I rebarreled a 7 mag to 264 win with a Lilja #2 contour several years ago. It was one of the best shooting in terms of accuracy and light recoil i have ever shot. After an antelope hunt in Wy my outfitter would not let me leave with it...it stayed with him for many years and he shot coyotes at extreme ranges with it. Any competent smith can rebarrel it for you. The other down side to the CLR is the stock. It is very difficult to find a quality stock. Banser made a nice hand laid fiberglass stock, i do not know if he still does. If you can get it one it is a worthwhile addition. Currently i am shooting a CLR in a straight forward 284 Win with a #2 Kreiger. Again it is an extremely good shooting and light weight rifle with extremely good accuracy. Bill

Understood, we will see how it shoots. And figure out a plan of action for it. There are quite a few on gunbroker in 30-06 for about $500-640. I really like how slick it is. I am hopefully headed to the range tomorrow with it.

I have one of those, pretty nice rifles. My shoots good I don't have my records in front of me but I was satisfied with the accuracy. I do remember even with the 24" barrel I never got to 3,000 fps. with 130 grain bullets with published max loads. Maybe mine is just slow.

I had one before in 30-06. I worked up an honest 1/4" load with it. They're pretty great little guns. Melvin will still work on them, such as putting one of his stocks on it and creating a kind if poor man's NULA If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Factory Hornady American Whitetail 130 grain is a 1 inch load. I guess it is ready to hunt. Trigger really sucks though.
