Hey Terry, I kind of expected it was just a "wording" issue. We all do it on occasion. I completely agree about cleaning the Bores on new firearms prior to shooting them. And I've also used the old large brush on a cleaning rod section to "re-polish" a chamber. In fact, I had to do it earlier this year for a young fellow who used some of the "Montana Extreme" cleaning fluid, but didn't follow up with a light coating of grease. His chamber rusted real quick here in our humid Carolina climate. Brownell's sells "Garnet" in 600 and 800 mesh. I'd encourage you to try some of it if you do much Bore Lapping. I've got some coarser Garnet and tried some tests on a relatively soft "Galvanized Plate". I mixed the various meshes of Garnet with "Whitening Toothpaste"(according to 2 Dentists this type is the most abrasive) and scrubbed the Galvanized Plate 100 strokes with a toothbrush. The coarser meshes of Garnet did slightly scratch the Galvanize. As expected, the scratches became smaller with the finer Garnet. Didn't get to try it on a "polished" steel plate yet though. Good luck to you. | |||
