I got my gun back after having a trigger job done. The gun is brand new and never fired. So I took it out (no scope) to break in the barrel. This puppy will shake you up. I put 16 rounds through it and my brothers each put 2 through it.

I was scared to death to shoot this thing for the first time because I have heard nothing but horror stories about the recoil. A bunch of guys were saying that the pawn shops were full of the .338 rum guns, and that sporting goods stores were clearancing them out with the ammo dirt cheap because no one liked the recoil. I have to say that I was pleasantly suprised. The recoil was very manageable. Didnt hurt in the least bit but did shake you up. I have about 50 pounds on my brothers so they took more of a beating than I did. My younger was hesitant when I asked if he wanted to shoot it for the second time [Smile] . Anyways, its a great round and lots of fun to shoot. I need something bigger now [Smile] .

Here are some videos of me shooting the rifle. They are off the digital camera so a bit grainy. They are best viewed at double size.

Thats a nice round you got. I now exactly what you mean about worrying about the recoil since I had one before. I had to sell it because I couldn't buy any reloading tools here in Sweden.

Thanks for the videos and BTW, what gun is it. I cant see realy clear but looks a little like the one I had. Remington 700 LSS.

Hello Schapman43.
Great to hear that you like your new rifle.
I'm in the "same boat" as you. I've also picked up my custom -buildt rifle just before the huntingseason this autumn.
I have had my 338 RUM buildt on a Winchester pre'64, SS action. Me too havent got mine scoped yet (the lack of money right now! [Frown] ) but I have done some breaking -in. I've fired approx. 40 round trought it now, and the recoil didnt scare me. Maybe it's because I've been shooting some with a 338 Lapua Mag. and not to forget; my 460 Wby. But I really looking forward to have it scoped, so I can start with some seriouse accuracy testing. [Wink]

I am sure that it didn't take you long to determine that prone, as you shot in the first sequence, is not the way to shoot the bigger guns. If you can shoot them and rock a little with the recoil they are much more pleasent to shoot. Sounds like a great round. I shoot two .340's, .358 STA's, and a 416 Rem. Good luck and good shooting.

Actually prone felt better to me then the other positions. Not quite sure why? I love shooting this gun. There is nothing quite like it! Problem is now I want something even bigger. Thinking of a .50 BMG.
