This is a rifle(7x57) my fathers father purchased long ago.It was passed to my father when his father passed and it has been passed down to me.It sat in the safe for years..The bolt handle work,drilling/tappeing for bases and safety were done by my father 20+ years ago...I threw a extra scope on it and loaded up some 140gr Nosler Accubond with H4350 and this rifle FLAT SHOOTS!!!

I have shot sevaral 1 1/2" 3 shot groups at 300yards it's amazing. But I have no idea what model, type action etc this is.Could one of you fill me in?

Upon a closer look, the action has been bedded.

Mauser made that one. Look on the offhand side of the action and tell us what it says there. I'm not an expert on the mausers but there are some on here that are. Give that info and you'll probably get an answer. I had an 1895 chilean mauser years ago that was a shooter but I just had to have a new one. homer

Smack:
I think it's a military rifle reformed.
The wood and the barrel are original military for the style of both.
It's not possible to see in the photo all the bolt. They have (the bolt) the 3rd lug of a Kar '98 or do not have (previously action '95 or '94)?
I`m sorry for my bud English.
With your answer at the Raybass questions it's possible determined what model are.
Regards
Hector

SMACK!!!!,

Congrads - Looks like your have a great shooter!

Don't dare git rid of that rifle! Keep targets and hunt with it so you'll have some good stories to show/tell when you pass it along to kids/grandkids.

Looks like a "sporterized" military Mauser '93 or '95. These were common in Spain and a few other European countries, as well as a number of South American countries. The action is regarded as not as strong as the '98, but it is safe with standard pressure 7x57 loads.

I think Stonecreek is right... I have the bolts of a 98 and a 96 in front of me and the bolt in the above photo's don't match up with what I have...
1..Note no "guide" rib on bolt body as found on 98's and 96's...this feature alone separates it from the 98 & 96
2..Note small cut in bolt body just aft extractor in top photo..(my 96 has this cut but not the 98)
3..Does it cock on opening or cock on closing?
4..Note off side lug in photo #3..it is longer than that of a 98 as a 98's lug does not over hang the bolt face...

The receiver doesn't have a thumb cut-out but has a charging hump...Maybe the whoever installed the the side mount filled in the thumb cut out...
I have no 93's or 95 bolts to compare....
Very nice shooting rifle you have there however..

Is the bolt face flat on the bottom?

Either a spanish 93 or 95

The chilian 95 has a lug on the reciever tang behind the bolt knob root

Low Wall. The bolt cocks on the close....

GSP7. The bolt face is flat on the bottom...

Upon closer inspection there is a symbol on the top of the barrel just ahead of the action it looks to be a oval with a crown on top(Kings crown)inside the oval are three letters in a triangular pattern... "E" at the top,"L" lower left and "G" lower right..There is what also appears to be a small triangle above the crown on the oval...

Hope this helps...

Landon

My 2 cents
According to Olson the rectangular lower front bolt face was found on model 1993 Mausers, later models were round. Ergo if the bolt is flat bottomed at the front it's a '93

Sure looks like a spanish mauser to me.
FYI. Thats the rifle the rough riders faced in cuba and its performance is what killed the 30/40 craig , and spawned the 30,06.
Ya don't want to load to hot for that one.
Its a good rifle and a good round. With your military barrel its prety cool you are getting such good groups. ...tj3006
