We were out pig hunting Saturday night and my friend brought his new 6.8 SPC with thermal scope. I had never shot the cartridge before. The first boy got up on the sticks with a boar down range and let the first round fly. I was dumbstruck, it sounded like a bottle rocket flying across the field. Unfortunately the boys father hasn't taught him the greatest marksmanship skills, so we got to hear several more rounds go off. Each one sounded like a bottle rocket and you could seemingly track it across the field. It just had a long 'wizzing' sound. I thought that it was rather unusual. Not sure if anyone else has had that experience with the round or if it might have been the environmental conditions that we were in....

Was there no wind? I ask because, a few years ago a friend of mine and I were hunting antelope on a windless morning and when he shot a good buck I could here the bullet splitting the air.
