Got my dies yesterday and shot my 7X57 today, I had 10 rounds each of 140 grain Sierra pro hunter, and 10 rounds of a nosler Balistic tip. Both over 49 grains of H 414.
I had a tough time getting it on paper, but once I did, it quite good. The sierra grouped three into 1.030 and the Nosler gave .95 and .78, Those are three shot groups and the last 2 sierras went into a half an inch.
Battery was dead in the Chroney and it will probably be a couple weeks till I shoot again. 3 day coast elk hunt next weekend.
But it should give me 2800 and I am sure I could up the charge a bit. I would love to see 2900 and might get there with the 24 inch barrel. A very promising start !

Good to hear it shoots so well, tj.

Assuming your trouble getting the shots on paper required much scope cranking, may I suggest a look at or replacement of the mounts might be needed. While it's possible to get a scope zeroed by winding it to the edge of adjustments, this is a bad idea optically and mechanically, and may result in mysterious misses over time.

A better idea is to use mounts with lateral adjustments and/or the odd shim to boresight without moving scope adjustments from the central area.

Sambra the problem,
Was that the range I was at has no place to shoot less than 50 yards. They used to have portable stands you could set up where you wanted.
I sighted my 300 H&H in for Elk next weekend at the range and after sighting down to bore in the old fashioned method would not get me on paper I drove 60 miles to the coast range And used a stump at 25 yards. Got it close to center fired one more at 50, and then shot off my hood at 100.
It has an old friction adjustment Leupold Compact 3X9 on it now. I will have something better on it by deer season.
I like the Leupold bases with the adjustable rear. But it has Weaver bases with Burris Z rings. I could use a better recoil pad on it now, the old pink vented pad has shrunk up a little and is only .75 thick. pull lenghth is 13, I like 13.25 to 13.5 so a new pad and scope for sure. Basses and rings maybe....tj3006

My 7X57 came with me on the deer hunt this year. Mine also has a 24" tube. Love that rifle. As you know H-414 or W 760 is THE powder for that round. My current loads use 145 gn Speers. If I used mine for Elk it would get loaded up with 160 grainers though. Much better penetration.
