Well it's hard to be precise because of the limits of the record keeping available. This is most likely 1961 vintage, it falls right in the middle of known serial numbers for that year, per Fiore Passaro who is one of the leading experts on Brownings.

It is quite an old rifle,a 308 winchester, that has barely had a box of shells fired through it.My father bought it for a song and I was hoping to get scope mounts and a scope, sling etc for christmas,as for action types would this be a sako action???Only saw it once and can't remember..

It's most likely a FN small ring action, that was the normal action for 243 and 308 until 1964 when they switched to the Sako action for these rounds.
