Going to work on some loads for my nephews 270. I picked up several bags of the 140accubonds and was going to start with some RL22.

Any experience and/or other suggestions?

As usual just my $.02

Each rifle is an individual so look up a starting load using the appropiate powder that you have on hand.

I like that bullet so far but shoot the Ballistic Tip for practice.

I've tried them w/ R22 and H4831. The R22 gave much more speed compared to the H4831 but the H4831 was very accurate. I chose the H4831 load(58 grains) because of the accuracy but, it's only bumping along at 2820 from that rifle. The R22 was giving 3100 fps in the same rifle but, didn't shoot as well. The next time I try out the R22 w/ that bullet in the same rifle I'm going to try to keep it close to 3000 and see if the accuracy can match H4831.

Good Luck

I have had excellent results with IMR4831 and that is the powder listed as "most accurate powder tested" in the Nosler #5 manual.

My old FN .270 likes RL 22 prety well, with the acubonds, but H-4831 was a little better, and the sierra 140 grain Hollow point was a little more acurate so, if I take after mule deer this year, thats the bullet likly to get the nod. ...tj3006

Last time I reloaded for a 270 was in the 70s at that time it was 130s and $1/lb surplus H4831. LOL Figured I would try the RL22 since I had a lot of it. If that didn't work the fall back would be 4831.
Anyone interested they have the 140 accubond 2nds for $11.95/50.

I used 140gr Nosler BT (ballisticly duplicate to Accubond) with H-4831 and worked up a load that got me under 3" groups @ 300 yds.

This was in my Savage 110 in .270

It got me my first Pronghorn last year

It should be a great bullet for your .270

I was at the range this morning and shot this group at 200yds with my Beretta Mato in 270 Win using WW Brass GM210M primers, 60.0grs RL-22 and 140gr Accubonds:

RL-22 also works quite well in my Finnlite 270. I'll bet you'll have good luck with it too!.............DJ

In my rifle RL-22 is the fastest by 130fps and more accurate. I load H4831SC because it maintains it's velocity in cold weather, something I've found RL-22 dowsn't do. My son-in-law and I shot several groups out of the same rifle with H4831 and RL-22. 2 shots of each group were at air temp(90+), the third we had in the freezer for a couple of hours. Each time the RL-22 would drop well over 100 fps with the cold round compared to the warmer ones. H4831 didn't do that, sometimes the cold shot was between the velocity of the two hot ones. Since much of my hunting that I would use a heavy bullet in the 270 is in cold weather, I'll use the H4831.

I've had the best combination of accuracy and velocity using IMR-4350 in my 270. 150 grain SGKs over 5x.x grains of IMR-4350 gives muzzle velocity of 3,025 (chronoed). Trajectory is:
    +1.2 at 100
    0.0 at 200
    -6.2 at 300
    -18.1 at 400

Here's the group at 400 yards:

I have been getting great results with the H4831SC and 140 ABs and that is what will be going in the field this year in my son's Rem700 .270 and my A-Bolt .270.

I plan to try some RL22 this fall at the range to see if I can get a few more fps and still keep the groups tight.

IMR 4350, H4831, Rel 22, IMR 4831. That's where I would start and in that order. They all are good 270 win powder choices.

I have used 58grns of H4831sc nad the accubond for two years. Mt new Sako finnlight with 20" tube is getting the same velocity as my old 24" Remington was getting, 2950 fps. All sub-moa averages. I have had phenominal penitration with this load (24"ish hard angle on a whitetail at 312 yds). It is an excellent combination. Wouldn't hesitate to use it on bigger critters. Good luck.

Ramrod340: I have never used the 140 gr. bullets in any of my 270's - mainly because I have had such good performance from various 130 gr. bullets.
I know a couple of guys that do highly recommend the 140 gr. bullets. I can't see any application for the 270 and the 140's that would not meet with success!
Best of luck to you and your nephew in your endeavour.

Djpaintles: Congratulations on the splendid group there at 200 yards!
Good for you and your Sako 270!

Riodot: Congratulations to you on the fine Trophy Antelope and your great shooting 270!
Many happy returns of that day to you.

RaySendero: Congratulations are very much in order for you also!
That is a splendid group at 400 yards you made with your 270!
Good for you and the 270 as well!
By the way RaySendero, was that a Remington 700 Sendero Rifle in 270 Winchester that you used to make that group with!
I have an especially accurate Remington 700 Sendero in 270 myself.

Long live the 270 Winchester!

Hold into the wind
