A bud just bought a 370 which is a "necked up" '06 round. Can I load that thing for him with a 336 or even an '06 die by playing with the adjustments on the dies? Hate to see him buy dies if existing ones can be made to work---safely that is.

Never heard of a 370. A FL die will not work. A bushing die might neck size.

As usual just my $.02

I think he may be talking about the 370 Sako Mag.

Which if he is I think it is 9.3 x 66.

Sorry to be so ignorant of details. He just told me about it after church. Just called him and he said it is a Winchester(probably rifle manf.) Will get more info before he leaves for Tenn. tonight. Headed to youth play at church so may miss him. I looked up some info and saw the Sako round. Can you believe he only paid $120 bucks for that rifle/Leo. scope? Some people just have hidden horse shoes-lol.

Thanks that makes some sense. If it the 370 Sako you might be able to neck up 06 brass to accept the 9.3 bullet. Trying to make it from 06 brass would end up with a neck of only .2"
You could probably also seat a bullet. No way I can see you resizing a fired case.

A 9.3x66 would resize all but the base in a 9.3x62 die. Ir if you had a 9.3 neck sizer.

If it is a 9.3x66 or 370Sako then brass will be hard to come by. www.z-hat.com has it. Trying to make it from 06 brass would end up with a neck of only .2"

If he decides he doesn't want to jack with it let me know.

Useing an 06 die will not work. The 06 is 63mm long and the 370 is 66mm long. Also the body taper is larger in diamiter on the 370 by about .005. The 370 is in essance an streched out 9.3x62.

Its only a 370 Mag in a Winchester if its a custom job. Would be hard pressed to believe someone who went to the trouble of building/buying a rather unheard of caliber wouldn't already have ammo set up.

Maybe he meant a 375? That would be much much more common.

And a 370 would require its own die set. I don't think 30-06 brass would even work for sizing. Federal made the claim its based on a 30-06, when really its just very similar. I do believe some measurements are different, like the 9.3x66.

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

I think he may have said "270" instead of 370. The .270 Winchester is a necked down 30-06 and dies can be had for as cheap as $20. If someone sold him a 370 Sako on a Winchester rifle with a Leupold scope for $120, that person is a retard and your friend needs to buy lottery tickets right away. Even if it is a .270 win, he got a hell of a deal as long as it doesn't blow up on him.

The 370 Sako Mag is only loosely fashioned after '06. It is not just a Whelen necked up. Sako used Federal to create this and it has a thicker web area to accomodate the new high energy Vihtavouri 500 series powders and they stole a wee bit of neck length to raise and square up the shoulder a tad. Bite the bullet and buy the dies. 286gr Barnes TSX..it's been said the Partitions blow up badly on big game. No proof, just hearsay an the Nosler.

I have used the 286 gn partitions with excellent results in my 9.3x66 on Australian buf. and wilderbeast in Zimbabwe.

Australia
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of drought and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!
