Does anyone have any thoughts on the Mossberg 100 ATR? I was looking at budget priced rifles the other day and saw it was priced about the same as the Stevens 200. It felt better built in my opinion I know the older Mossbergs were good rifles especially the .22's.

I pondered the same question when purchasing a rifle for the boy. I talked to several dealers and they all said that the ATR is a good rifle, but fit and finish was subpar compared to Savage and Remington. I own an old old Mossberg .22 rifle and it is nice.

I ended up buying a new Remington SPS 700 Youth for the boy and he loves it, better yet, my guy told me that the only difference is the stock and shorter barrel, he said I could buy a regular stock and put the gun in that when he is older.

Have fun

Aaron

I looked at the ATR when buying a buget priced rifle for a birthday gift to myself. I felt the stevens/savage was a better all around product than the ATR. I handled both. I like the Savage stock's better fit and finish. I also looked at the Remington 710 but did not like the action on the Remington 710. Many of the Wal-Marts across the country are shuting down the selling of guns in there sporting goods sections. I am seeing one of the walmarts around the corner from my house is selling the remington 710 for 299 + tax. Might just have to go grab one in 300 wm before they take that sell tag off. LLB

My biggest gripe with the Savage and Stevens rifles is the piece at the back of the bolt that rattles around. It drives me nuts that they put a part there that is just hanging there.

I looked at the 710 as well, didn't like that grey stock. I bought the kid a 700 SPS 30.06 all black for $325.00 out the door (I got a slight discount), way better price than walmart or other stores at the time.

Good luck, may try the gun shows, I tried but had a time crunch as the kid's birthday was a month away and didn't have a gun show until after.
