Hi,

I´m about to start (as soon as I get all my data) reloading for the 8x60S but I can´t fins data for OAL (which I hope is total cartridge length). Max case length should be 60mm and a trim length of 59.8mm.

I reckon I´ll have the answer soon!

cewe, fyi, in my SAKO 8x60mm (0.318) I get 2600 fps (per chronogrph) and s slightly sticky bolt lift with 49.0 grains IMR 4895. Same velocity with 49.2 grtains of Norma N203, not sticky, and the bulets are 196 grain Norma and 200 grain Woodleighs, all in 0.318 diameter of course. RWS and Norma brass. I suspect these loads are a bit hot, but the FN action seems okay, and I have no other signs of pressure except that bolt lift.

I happened to find some reloading data in a Finnish "independent" reloading manual and it recommended an OAL of 78mm for the Norma Vulcan 196gr. I now have three loadings to test using VV N140: 2.95grams, 3.00 grams and 3.05grams. I don´t seem to get the hang of the grains when it comes to powder...

Interesting, as the loads were rather light. I have loaded for a 8x60S Mannlicher-Schoenauer with 53 grs Norma 203-b. At 55 grs it lost accuracy and the bolt was slightly tight. I backed to 53 grs and had a fine load. Bullet was 196 grs, cases RWS and primers standard.

According to the RWS reloading manual it's 79,2 mm for their 12,1 gram H-mantle and 12,8 gram TIG and 77,3 mm for their 12,7 gram TMR roundnose

Hi,

I tested the loads this morning and got 740m/s with 3.05 grams of N140, OAL 78mm. This is a moderate load, I guess it would be quite possible to get close to 800m/s -but for +800m/s speeds I´m building an 8x68S that should be ready to trot in the spring!

Has anyone used the Vulcan bullet on game? I´m planning on using it for European elk and whitetail this fall.

Hi,

What speeds are you guys getting with this cal? It seems that 740m/s is a very mild load...at least according to friends.

Cewe,

The COL at 82mm were from the Norwegian "Ladeboken"("Handloading", an exelent book.
They load the 200 grs Partition with max 49grs of Norma 202 = 750m/s. 51 grs of Vithavuori N150 =777m/s. 56 grs of Norma 204 =750m/s.
They also loaded the 175 grs Sierra with a COL at 81mm and with 53 grs(max)N140 they got 825m/s.
