Hi all I bought a very used Mark V in 270 Weatherby a few years ago after I gave my youngest my BDL in 270 (which I still miss lol).

The Mark V shoots lights out and only cost me about $900. but I would like to put a synthetic (lighter stock on it), and plan to CeraKote the metal. Or I just may leave it as is and hunt the hell out of it. It's got a Zeiss scope on it now. Any recommendations? This is what it looks like now.

Regards,

Chuck

Thanks Biebs. I'm handloading 150g Partitions at 3250 fps so I'm good. Hit a scuba tank at 845 yards with three times in a row, so I don't want to touch the barrel. I have been hunting with it, just usually take my 500 Jeffery. It hasn't worked it's way into my heart yet. If I do a guided bull elk hunt this will be the rifle I take. When I go by myself, I like to take the 500 Jeffery and hunt in the dark timber.

Regards,

Chuck

I pulled my dads old early 80s LH Mark V 270 WBY out of the gun safe the other day. My brother cracked the wood stock beyond repair a while back so it has been collecting dust. I finally found a suitable replacement factory stock and am having it Cerakoted to clean it up. The old stock had dings and dents and the bluing was rubbing off and the tube on the old 3-9 Nikon is scratched up but I’m reusing it for sentimental sake. I have a few custom rifles that are scary accurate but dads old WBY with a bedding and trigger job will put 130gr Partitions into one hole with regularity at 100yds and is like Thor’s hammer on deer sized game.

I would say if it’s a hunting gun and it shoots who cares what it looks like...I wouldn’t mess with it.

Thanks. It's accurate as hell and I don't plan to take it to Alaska so no real need for a synthetic stock. Pretty is as pretty does.

Chuck

I have a Mk-V I bought used.
It already had an oil finished stock, I bead blasted and reblued the metal to get rid of the shine.
My PH said it looks like a real Hunter's rifle not a Weatherby.

Do you want a synthetic stock with the original Weatherby shape? If so then Bell & Carlson is the brand. I believe several other companies make straight comb stocks for your Weatherby. So pick your poison! Wink

Not a big fan of the Weatherby Monte-Carlo type stock. Found a McMillan that should do the job. So it begins, gonna talk to my gunsmith and see about putting a 24" slighly heavier contour Krieger barrel on it.

If it ain't broke best leave it alone, it shoots great, the stock isn't warped and its obviously been used, so the woods good..Go hunting with it as is....BWT I believe the 270 wby is the most over looked long range rifle out there, its as flat shooting as anything on the market, in the real world anyway..

Those old weatherby rifles are classic and works of art .They get the job done and are tough as nails and stronger than a tank .The only thing I don't like is the safety .I am having the bolt lock taken off all mine so I can open the bolt and unload with the safety on .They will last forever awesome rifles .

Wow , beautiful gun . This is my wish list rifle . Have not found one at a decent price , usually $1400 plus at local gun shows .
I hunted with a business associate who had one many years ago .
Until I find one I will enjoy hunting with my 270WSM Browning .
Thanks for posting pics !
