Any experience with this rifle? Thinking of a 280 Rem, but it comes with a 22" barrel.

Who else makes 280's (not custom)?

Hello Willie,

There are many manufacturers of the 280 Rem out there. The X-bolt is a nice rifle and the styling is quite racey and the price is pretty good. Down side, don't like the plastic/phenolic magazine. Priced @ $700

Remington is still making 280's as well and can be had is lighter weight version then the standard BDL, the 700 CDL would be my preference in this rifle. I saw a very nice Remington Titanium with 22", spiral fluted bolt and HS Percision stock. CDL price $800, Ti $1400

Ruger is making a their Hawkeye version as well, in a variety of flavors, stainless/synthetic, stainless/Houge Overmoulded, wood/blued. The new triggers on the Rugers are an improvement. Prices around $730.

Hope this helps.

If I wasn't having one built for me on a 1903, the X-bolt would be my choice for a 280. In fact I've been thinking of having my Springfield made into something else so I can get a 280 X-bolt! They sure do feel great in the hands, and from what I've read they improved the X over the A-bolt. Supposed to be a better recoil pad, trigger (user adjustable) and the feed system inside that new plastic magazine.

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!
