For a first rifle i would get a 308,270,280,7x57, 30-06,or 7mm magnum. You will love all these calibers and just pick out the rifle that fits you the best and the one you like the best. All the above calibers are proven deer getters.... My favorites are the 30-06 and 7mm magnum for deer.. Good Luck and have fun

When I was 15 and 140 pounds my best friend and I both got 338 win mags. They work wonderful on deer. His was a S&W 1500 and mine was a ruger 77. We spent lots of our money on reloading supplies and settled for getting video games for our birthdays or X-mas. Your rifle sounds like a winner. I would look for a used leopold scope. A package reloading starter kit may be something to look for too. My reloading settup is a: lee hand press $20 lee safety powder scale $20 case lube pad set of dies $25 hand prime tool $10 lee case trimmer and holder $10 deburring tool $10 1 pound powder $20 (50 270 WSM cases $18 ) (100 270 sierra 130 grain $15) Powder funnel $2 This would be enough to get you started handloading. You would break even after the first 100 rounds. So whether you buy 5 boxes of factory ammo or load them it would be the same . But your next 5 boxes of handloads would only cost $15 to $30 bucks depending on what bullets you loaded. So you could get set up for about the cost of 3 X-box games. If your uncle reloads maybe you could just get somes dies, cases, bullets and powder and have him load some for you. I learned to reload from the intro to reloading in the speer reloading manual. Good luck and good shooting.
