yeah...thats right ..another controversy Big Grin

I am about to have my .333 Jeffery rifle built
and reading John Taylors book "african catridges and rifles".. he rates this particular cartridge high. 11 kills, 11 shots and 11 elephants.
Both cartridges shoots 300grain bullets at moderate 2200 Ft/sec I instanly fell in love with this beut.

One can slight see the metfordrifled barrel at the top which is made by Arthur Smith in england. The barrel contour is taken from David Littles(Kynochs) original .333 jeffery.
I believe these loooong bullets have some kind of potential. Eeker

If you're braining elephants then a 333 with solids ought to be just the ticket. You gotta love a cartridge where nearly half its length is bullet!

Indeed. That is a sexy cartridge. With the moderate velocity, the rifle should be much fun to shoot.

ALF,
Thank you for the information. It's always interesting to take part of your knowledge!

Did you know that Denis Finch Hatton (i think it was) claimed according to Bror Blixens book "Letters from Africa" to have shoot down a German double decker with his H&H Royal .450/.500 N. E. Double rifle that was harassing the British trenches in the Flanders.

He gave it "A right and a left" and down it went...

You should be more concerned about the brass situation.....Bertram brass is no good Frowner....and you will have to expect a loooooooong waiting period for Dieter Horneber to make up the best brass in the world beer...yeah....thats right, I have just recieved 80 pieces of the Horneberbrass
which will cost you(living overhere) about
$6 a piece Cool....but what the heck??...when going for this caliber everthing becomes diffecult and expensive, but that`s the fun part Wink

The 333 however using those long typical FMJ's could take Jerry from behind his shield.

I read about that in Hesketh-Pritchard's book. Seems he talked his commander in to letting him tour London gunmakers, who were eager to help in the war effort, in his search for something that would shoot through the shields. He got scoped rifles and ammo from Rigby, Jeffery and a couple of others, and went to war with the finest English rifles of the day.

Nice work if you can get it.

jens,

Thanks for posting this topic. The 333 Jeffery sounds like a very interesting round, when was it developed? What loading will you be using, 250 grain or 300 grain bullet? What sources are there for reloading data?

I am interested in knowing more about the rifle you are having built, around the 333 Jeffery, and would appreciate you sharing the specifications for your rifle.

Thank you!

i concur with the 333 jeffrey, its a great round and it should have been used more in the world. Taylor didn`t like the 250 grs because it expanded to fast and wasn`t reliable, he preferred the 300 grs wich had a tendency to penetrate very deeply and it was a very effeicient cartridge
