Can't go wrong with 130 grain Nosler Partition's. Would be my choice for deer.

The .270 is still my "go to" rifle, and I have shot a lot of deer and pigs with Speer 130-grain and 150-grain Grand Slams. They are not a cheap bullet, but I have yet to have one fail to exit, and they typically cut a clean hole completely through, no matte whether you shoot shoulders or ribs (lungs). Meat damage is negligible, and they truly mess up the lungs if a lung shot is taken. Yes the deer will run, but it is dead on its feet. No problem tracking at all...

I've used Granslams in 7mm, 30 and 338... I'm not impressed with them, especially "if" you compare them to NP's.. I've had them come apart and not exit, so why buy a bullet that cost the same as an NP and doesn't perform as well as an NP??

I hit the pictured moose foreward on the shoulder two times with my .338-06 loaded with 250 grain G.slams at 150 yards. Both bullets came apart and never even made it to the hide on the far side... It wasn't the first failure i had with GS's, but it WAS the last time i ever used them!

Tell your "guy at the gunshop" he's full of shit. You ain't gonna get bench rest accuracy but you'll get all the accuracy you need to kill a deer. If you shoot a deer with a NP and lose it, it ain't the bullets fault. You don't need any sort of magic bullet to kill a deer. I've never used them but I daresay the winchester ammo you're using will take any deer walking. Winchester has been making them and selling them for a long time.
You might want to try the 150's in your rifle to ensure a pass thru. Also, with a high lung shot on a deer, it can run a long ways without a blood trail as the blood is puddling inside the lung and chest cavity. The classical "behind the shoulder" shot if often a good one BUT it also depends on how the deer is quartering. You have to consider not only where the bullet is going in, but where will it be coming out.

I've never shot a moose but I've shot mulies, antelope and elk with grand slams. I may have been lucky (a lot of times) but they've never failed to fetch what I sent them after.
That's not saying there's anything wrong with NP's.

I have never been a fan of balistic tip ammo on deer. But this season I shot two with the .270 using the nosler balistic tips and results were devastating. I was very impressed with these bullets on deer. I will use them in the future.

I have had one bullet only that did not pass all the way through a deer and it was a 150 speer flat base spitzer from my 270. The shot was only 130 yards. Didn't matter because he fell dead right there but that was a classic broadside shot and I put the bullet right behind the shoulder.

So, that is why I do not recommend heavier bullets for increased penetration per caliber. I've found that it just isn't always the case. This includes deer, elk, and bear.

Here's that buck:
