I was wondering if anyone has used this bullet on deer and larger game. I know several people who hunt elk with a 270 130 gr partitions.I was just thinking that if the Barnes retains 90% of their weight the 120 would be just as good.I also know the GS Custom recommends their 120 for Kudu. Whats your take on this?

The GSC HV 130gr in my Sako 7mm Rem Mag is fantastic on any game from Blesbuck, Impala, Kudu and Bluewildebeest.
On all of these one shot kills are the usual thing!

The GSC HV 120gr would give you a flatter trajectory and a bit longer reach, but will still do the same work.

For me, it seems too light. I would be happy w/ a 140grTSX for game bigger than deer but I have confidence in the 160grNP @ 2800fps from the 280 & it just gets better @ 3100fps from the 7mag.

Im with Fred.Dont be overly impressed with muzzle velocity. Its impact velocity that counts coupled with penetration and expansion. Its the last part that worries me with the all coppoer bullets. The 160 partition has my vote.

There may be reservations about expansion with some copper bullets but I can assure you from first hand experience that GS custom turned bullets expand every time. I used to use slower and heavier bullets with lead cores and they had expansion problems.

I can add, if not that, then they shatter to pieces causing a mass of pulped meat, especially when shot out of a 7mm Rem Mag!

The GSCHV's mushroom perfectly, shed their petals when heavy bone is encountered in the penetration path and keeps on penetrating in a straight line as a flat nose bullet until it exits the animal. Minimum meat damage caused in the process even when launched at 3400fps muzzle velocity.

Have never recovered a GSCHV bullet from any game I've shot - from Impala to Bluewildebeest, Gemsbok and all in between.

Because of the lathe turned pure copper bullets' far better construction and higher velocity, bullet weight is much less of a factor in its killing ability.
