Guys, One of my sons has an interest in "handy" military rifles ... which is just as well as he is in the military. Anyone familiar with the differences between the Springfield Armory M1A Scout and SOCOM? Is the SOCOM barrel all steel? I've warned him about the noise factor in short barreled rifles ... I'll be the SOCOM is one noisy puppy! True? Thanks,

The two are one and the same expect the socom has a 16 inch tube instead of an 18 incher

socom has a 16.25" barrel while the scout has a 18" barrel - also, the socom has a xs front post with a tritium insert - socom is 37.25" in length while the scout is 40.3" in length - otherwise, the same rifle.
