Wow! A lot more variety then I expected to see. Lots of classics listed as well as some newer stuff. I picked my 2 as I could have the Swede be quite a light rifle while still having low recoil and the ability to reach out for stuff like antelope and sheep/goats. If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

I pretty much have it now: A 9.2x62 in a converted M77 tang-safety and a 270 in a Ruger No.1. If it was a two rifles PERIOD question, it would be the 9.3x62 and a 22LR, in this case my CZ. I've whacked every common type of animal around MT with the 9.3x62, yes even antelope, you just have to "hunt" more. In Africa, well it has worked for generations and worked perfectly for me. And the 22RL, well it is legal for mountain grouse here (I realize that little fact may be proof of the "End of Time" for some Eastern bird hunters, relax, we still hunt pheasants with shotguns...most of the time...) and it is my all time favorite for gophers, will take fox and even coyotes with head shots, a remote caller makes this easier. If you are talking just two weapons and consider them as just meat getters rather than "gee what if you see a trophy whatever at 400 yards" a 30-30 or 44 mag lever gun with a 12 ga. would probably do. Now a drilling or over/under in 30-30/12ga. would be interesting.

Exactamo!! That's what I thought as soon as I saw the subject. I live and hunt in Northern Michigan. That definitely influences what two rifle's I'd choose. If I lived in Alaska, the two rifles would be far different from the two I'd pick for Michigan. For Michigan, and I don't hunt Bear, I'd go with a 7x57 and a 257 Roberts. We do have Elk hunts here, and I apply annually. But, I haven't drawn yet. If I drew, I'd use the 7x57 and 175 grain bullets. Don

I love this question because it allows me to offer another two-gun combination for all of North America. Eventually I will get to mention all my guns. This time I will go European: 1) 6.5X55 2) 9.3X62 **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

I own both and use them. The .30/40 does what I ask out to point blank range with 180 grain and somewhat less with 220 grain bullets. Use is mostly whitetail and hog but will take for pronghorn. Range for all 250 yards or less. The .348 hits like Thor's hammer and works well with 200 grain for deer and black bear. The 250 grain works well for elk in dark timber and I suppose moose. Range for all 150 yd or less.

I suppose I would just keep my 300 H&H and my 375 H&H.. But my 30-06 and my 416 would also be tempting as I do hunt Africa more than anyplace else. Based on that I would have to choose my 300 H&H and my 404 Jefferys.. I took the long way around getting there didn't I!!
