I would love a Sendero in a 338 RUM, but since they don't make one I have to decide between the 2.
Use - Long range deer and elk rifle.
Which would you take and why?

i bought a 300 rum sendero for the same uses. i also wanted a sendero 338 rum. but chose the 300 because you can actualy get one lol. and there is alot more bullet choices in .30 cal. i think either will have enough to kill an elk at the ranges most people can hit one where it needs to be hit. for deer either is way too much even at long range you wont get anything from the front shoulders of a white tail shot with a 300 rum. but the results are spectacular.

i dont know why rem doesent build a 338 rrum sendero. that would be about the perfect out of the box really long range gun.

I wish they did. They build a bunch back in 2001, but have not offer the sendero in a 338 since then.

The Sendero Stainless Fluted rifles chambered in 338 Ultra shoot quite well for a production rifle.
The Custom shop chambered the KS Mtn rifle in 338 Ultra(now discontinued)
Stainless Gray Laminated stocked 700's were also produced in 338 Ultra.

The 338 Ultra will run right along side of a 338 Lapua at 1/3 the cost.

I own the 338 RUM and thats the one I'd take.

I own a 300RUM and found 2 of the 338RUM Rem 700's grey laminate stainless. I had the first action trued and recrowned the barrel. Shoots well under MOA with loads from 94gr - 97gr RL25. Second one I will hopefully someday turn into a 375RUM.

BTW my 300RUM like so many others -- shoots under MOA as well. For whatever reason the RUM family tends to rock shoulders and shoot well.


I dont think you could go wrong with either. If it were me I'd probably go 300RUM.

Good to hear guys. I am excited to get my Sendero 300 ultra. Down the road turn it into a 338 edge unless people sell me on the 338 rum before then. Seem to be pretty close to each other all around.

I have a custom 300 RUM, plus A Rem 700 LSS in 338 RUM that's been worked by a local gunsmith with a good rep. The 300 RUM is the best shooter with 210 Bergers but it's abit heavy for me at 14# with the Nightforce scope. The 338 RUM gets more use for that reason and just loves the 250 gr Accubond.
I also load for my partners 340 Wby, which will shoot along side my Rem--maybe abit better.
Unless the weight became the deciding factor I wouldn't hesitate to take any one of them on my next elk & mulie hunt.
Also have a Sako in 30-378 Wby, it also likes the 210 gr Berger & 200 AB.
I have target butts here at the house out to 750 yds there hangs a 14" x 14" plate. No problem ringing the gong as we call it, with all of these rifles

I would not consider a Sendero for an elk rifle. Too heavy. I own one, and it is very accurate, but I have a .300 RUM in a standard 700 tupperware stock that I glass bedded that is about as accurate. They both have Vias brakes. I have another 700 with a Shilen barrel, and am currently building a switch barrel .300/.338 RUM on a Stiller action.
