Anybody have any experience with them? Local shop has one .30-06 on clearance. They said they've sold a lot of them and it's their last one. I only found one feature on it I don't like.

The detachable box magazine doesn't fit tightly and when pushing the bolt forward from the full open position, the bolt can catch a little on the back of the magazine.

I would avoid any of the Mossberg 4x4 style rifles, as they are a 3rd generation Raptor. They might work OK, but with proven low cost rifles like the Marlin XL/XS-7s, Savage 110 series, and Stevens 200s, I can't see any reason to buy a Mossberg at any price. I own several Savage 110 series rifles, plus 4 Marlin XL/XS-7, and am recommending the Marlins to my friends and customers who are looking for a basic hunting rifle for under $300 USD.

my best friend bought one several years ago. 12 pound trigger pull, returned to factory to fix, returned with 6 pound trigger pull. Mossberg refused to fit the new 'accutrigger clone'. He still hunts with it, looks like a mop handle to me. I would buy something else.

yes, but those marlins are no longer marlins as they were closed and now are made at the old remington plant in Illion. I would not buy a new one---- a marlington.

I own 4 of the Marlin XL/XS-7 rifles in 22-250, 243, 257 Roberts, and 7x57 that meet my needs quite nicely. I have lots of other rifles chambered for the same cartridges, but find myself shooting the Marlins quite often. They shoot good groups and it doesn't bother me if they get knocked around a little with minimum maintenance. I've owned Remington firearms for over 40 years, currently have nearly 100 Remingtons in the herd, so I'm a satisfied Remington owner and don't believe that the change in ownership will have a noticable impact on the product quality.

However, as with many things, YMMV.

I agree 100%!!!!! I ordered one for a customer who just thought it was the best deal he had heard of... (fluted, with a muzzlebreak) for $350. The black synthetic stock is very light and feels like it would break very easily. From what I understand you can not buy a replacement stock from mossberg if in fact it does break. I read a post on another forum about one with a skeletonized stock that crumbled on a cold day. The Marlin XL7 is a much better rifle!!!!
