I am new to this site and went through the 5 pages of the medium bore forum and didn't see the .358 in any subject lines! Heck it IS the best most unappreciated round out there!!

Mine is a Rem 78 rebarreled with a 23" Douglas barrel. It shoots good, doesn't kill the shooter, and punches a big hole in game at reasonable hunting ranges.

Tell us about your .358 Win-I know yall have some. Plateau Hunter

If you do a search, you'll probably turn up a lot of threads. My own 358 is a Browning BLR. Great little bush rifle, it has a 2.5 Weaver scope on it (I took the 4X Scopechief off) and it's an accurate powerful hunting rifle. - Dan

Amen! I have a custom Sako in 358 Win. For mixed terrain hunting where shots are likely to be under 250 yds and game is smaller than elk(which is about 99% of my hunting), the 358 is the rifle I choose. Actually, I am considering bringing my 358 as a back up on my next elk hunt. Dr. Lou

the 51mm case is too small for .35 cal, all real men shoot a 35 Whelen.

I don't have one, but my elk hunting buddy has a .358 BLR that has taken well over a dozen big elk cleanly. It's a great cartridge!

Just met and hunted with a fellow who hunts with one of those old Model 600's in .350 Rem mag. That's another underappreciated "thumper" cartridge! Regards, Guy

Likewise. Rem 700 short action rebarreled to 358 by E.R. Shaw. 23" barrel, 47 H4895 and around 2450 FPS with 200 Hdy, 1-1/4" groups. Puts big holes in things without beating the daylights out of you, like the 35 Whelen, or one of those other manly calibers [Big Grin]

I have just started building my 358Win. I found a old BRNO zkk 601 action the other day.(the old type with a pop-up peep sight in the rear bridge) Its a 308, but will get a 21" douglas premium barrel, new front sight, a Schmidt &Bender 4X36 scope in Warne QD mounts, and a new mannlicher type stock made of turkish walnut. I think my 358 will be used mostly with 250g bullets( 250g Woodleigh RN) as a brush gun for stalking red stag.

My 358 is an original Model 88 Winchester. Bought by my dad in '55 two years before I was born. I love this cartridge. It works as well as my 35 Whelen on game. Matter of fact, I love them both! Mark

I have a Savage 99 in .358 and an MRI Lone Eagle in the same. Sean

P.S. Look in the favorite loads section. Do a search and you will come up with some great load data on the .358.

I have a .358 Win, a .35 Whelen and a .358 Norma. My.358 Win. rifle started out as a new Ruger Mark ll Laminated-Stainless Steel Model 77 .308 Win. I had a Shilen 22 #4 contour barrel installed and stamped with 358 Win markings. The action was bedded, the barrel channeled and the factory-laminated stock resealed with the barrel floated. The trigger was crisped-up to approximately a 3.5lbs. release. The rifle and factory rings were bead blasted to a gun- boat gray color I have mounted a Weaver 4x Grand Slam scope using the factory rings on this rifle. If I had it to do again, I would use a #3 contour barrel. With the factory laminated stock and the #4 barrel, it is just a little heavy for my purposes.

As I have posted on several occasions on other forums, I can buy new .358 Win. 200 gr. Silvertips at a number of sporting good stores here in the Inland Northwest. I have purchased 20 boxes over the past several years and have paid around $22 per box. Unlike Remington, Winchester continues to manufacture runs of many cartridges (.358, .348, .38-55, etc.) that are frequently referred to on various forums as being discontinued. Your local dealer may have decided not to stock or order them for you, but that does not mean that Winchester is not manufacturing them. CP.

Mine's an original pre-64 Model 70 358 Win and it is an incredible shooter. Had a BLR for a while that shot prett well but just could not get used to that lever... I am a bolt man so I sold it. A fine caliber.

The one in the gun locker is based on a Ruger MKII (formerly a 308) with an 18 inch Douglas barrel, marbles sights, and Armoloyed.
I sold it a few years back, but the 'old lady' bought it back. Its her first, and so far only, rifle. I shot it this summer, after reloading 250 gr Grand Slam bullets (the only bullets it's ever had shot through it). A fine cartridge, worthy of every owner, so I recommend one to all. ~~~Suluuq

Let's see, 35's in the cabinet, a half dozen 357 Mags, a 357 Herrett Contender, a 35 Remington Marlin, a 358 Win BLR, a 35 Whelen Mauser, two 350 Rem Mags, a 600 and a Mauser, a 358 Norma Mag. Oh and a beat to death 95 Winchester in 35 Winchester I just latched on to. No flies on the 35's. - Dan

Plateau, we have talked before you know How I feel about the .358. Had to sell one of my blr's for financial reasons (the man who bought it loves it it has a good home in Wyoming)but I still have one and I'm having a Rugar 77 MkII rebarreled with a shilen bbl. 22" I love the levers but all mine but one are gone, sob, sob. It's my favorite rifle for bear and hogs, can't be beat for deer up to 250 yds. I've seen a lot of game killed with them up to moose and elk and all went down on the spot !
