I am looking for a good nockem on there butt caliber for a T/C 10-12 inch barrel. I have shot the 44mag with 330 gr garretts nice load but have had problems wanted a little more so I thought of 454 but the ballistic Coe. is really bad on both of them. I have fired off the 30-06 in the T/C was a little hot. I started thinking hell I reload why not try something a little different 338-08. Little less than the 30-06 (I think) and better range and ballistics than the 454 and the 44 mag.

Tell me what you think I regular bow hunt. Primary weapon however I do on some hunts great big hogs ect. carry back up right on the shoulder. I also like the idea of doing a semi guided have the light option in my bag. Looking for something out to 150-200 yds (perfect setup rest everything right).

My big question is with that length of barrel will I get anything out of it. Would I be better suited with a different caliber.

I usually get great advice here on all my questions so fire away. I would like to stay with a larger diameter bullet. I might hunt elk with this that would be the largest game most likely hunting whitetail and hogs.

Try the .358 win. you won't be sorry ! It doesn't look like much but it knocks anything I've shot with it on it's ass including a bunch of wild boar and about 30 black bears ! I use .250 grain bullets but if that is too much in a handgun drop down to the .225,s

I looked at the 35 whelen but I think that gets into the 30-06 catagory with a little to much kick. I have also really looked at the 454 casual but I am looking for input. I think the 338-08 is probable a better round than the Casual but it is not a pistol round so I have reservations about is performance out of a pistol barrel.

Hey Swift, I have a 12" TC in .375win. I haven't killed anything w/ it yet, but it smacks phone books w/ real authority [Big Grin] . Brass & dies are readily available, and it's very easy to load for. It will shoot 1 1/2" @ 100 all day.
I have been using the 220gr Hrdy & 235gr Speer @ 1850-1750fps. I've thought about giving the 260gr BT a try, but i am thinking they would need vel. o/ 2000fps to hope for any expansion. The 235gr Speer even over penetrates, but would be my choice for elk or moose. Good luck.
