Quote: IMHO the 26" would be somewhat better, in regards to ballistics, and assuming you like a barrel that long. The 24" may be better for handling, but that all depends on who you are talking to at the time. I have a Sako in .338 with a 20" barrel, and I wish it were 26"....not for the ballistics, but for the noise and barrel lift, it handles like a dream...even in the brush. Unfortunately, I traded a perfectly good 26" barrel gun for this one. So, once again, it boils down to what you want out of the gun. It would be ever so nice if you could "try" a few different barrel lengths before laying down your hard earned green, but I wouldn't know how to go about that...unless you have a few friens with these different length .338's. The one thing I am sure of here is your choice of calibers. It is a great round! Respectfully, Russ

I am thinking about rebarreling a rifle to .338 Wincester Magnum. Most of the factory rifles come with 24" barrels and a few 26" barrels. Will the cartridge perform well with a 24" barrel or would a 26" barrel be preferrable?
