After visiting all the rifle makers at the DSC I wonder which builds the best (in your opinion) hunting rifle. I am a leftie and have two actions that I would like to have built into custom/semi custom rifles. I prefer synthetic stock/forend as I live in Alaska. I would like to keep the weight down and want a muzzle brake installed. Accuracy is foremost in consideration. I appreciate everyones opinion, advice and experience with the various rifle makers.

Within your parameters, you'll have a REAL hard time beating the quality, price, and service of New Ultra Light Arms. Sell the actions and have Melvin Forbes build exactly what you want.

How much do you want to spend and if accuracy is your #1 goal, any off the shelf Savage will do that. jorge

Since I'm a lefty myself, I can understand your dilemma. I've had several rifles built by Rich Riley of High Tech in Colorado Springs, CO. He uses Bansner stocks which you might have seen at DSC. All rifles have been exceptionally accurate. Rich also understands lefty rifles and knows what we want

If you like Bansner's High Tech Stocks, why not just let Mark's gunsmiths build the whole rifle? I can't afford his rifles but he did a bangup job on my own Colt\Sauer rifle and on my Browning BPS 10ga turkey shotgun. First class workmanship throughout. I'd recommend his work to anyone.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Couple of questions: Does Rifles, Inc. have a website? If not how do I contact Lex? Does anyone have experience with Empire, Christensen's, High Tech, Jarrett, Hill Country, HS Precision, New Ultralight, Brown Precision, or any other rifle makers? What about great gunsmith's? Todd Ramirez has a big fan club!

My left handed stainless Rem 700 action is in the Rifles Inc shop and will be made into a Lightweight Strata in 7mm RUM and will be wearing a 4 - 16 X 50 Swaro PH with the BR reticle. I can't weight, but now I'm worried that I will like it so much that I will NEED to have more built!

The best gunbuilder I know is D'Arcy echols, who posts here on ocassions and is usually at some of the SCI shows..Didn't see him this year however...He ain't cheap btw..

I think Rifles Inc. & New Ultra Light Arms are hard to beat in accurate lightweights. I have (2) NULA's and am totally satisfied; very accurate.

Although I do not know if they come in left hand, you should give Kimbers 84M or 8400M a look as I have heard nothing but good things about this rifle and I have looked at quite a few and shot one in 300wsm that was a solid MOA rifle.

I think they tip the schales at under 6lbs for the 84M and under seven for the 8400M.

Just a thought. I will be buying a 8400M in the not to distant future as a custom rifle is simply out of my pri$e range.

Yes, I've had Lex build me 2 RUMs. The first ended up in 300 and the second and my favorite in 338. The 338 has already taken two nice whitetails, a B & C antelope and a bull elk while the 300 has taken a mtn goat and a B & C antelope also. I have one more action left and it will be a 375 RUM as soon as I can swing it. The 338 and I will be leaving for Namibia in about 3 months!
