I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this. Moderator, please move this post to the correct forum if needed. Thank you. Does anyone have any experience with this action? Said to be made for Dumoulin of Belgium in China, based on FN blueprints. Available from Sarco for $395. But, I also read that one can find them for $295 or so. http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/dumoulin-mauser-action.aspx The photos below are from here: These photos are from here: How does that even work out when better known name makers ask for thousands for new Mauser actions? This must have been brought from the Chinese manufacturer for around $100 or so. Agreed it looks a bit crudely finished. But,it could be refined at the factory perhaps for a slightly higher price and some inputs from the experts? Appreciate your views. Thanks in advance. This action has been discussed at great length on this forum previously. (in Gunsmithing) I still have seen no proof that it is made in China only speculation. Most people that have had one in hand agree that it is a serviceable action for the intended use. Price vary from mid 300's to high 300's. The one I have is relatively smooth, trigger decent and safety functions fine. You will hear opinions from died in the past Mauser lovers that hate them and other people that think they are a great deal. This quote from Sarco sold me "These were produced many years ago and we bought the entire lot for posterity. These are the same actions Dumoulin uses to build their $10,000. rifles" I doubt Dumoulin sources their actions from China

Many thanks for your reply. I will look up the older thread. "Early in the morning, at break of day, in all the freshness and dawn of one's strength, to read a book - I call that vicious!"- Friedrich Nietzsche

Hello from Yurrup. Where ALL firearms and pressure bearing parts (on a Mauser barrel, receiver, bolt) must be proof tested. It is the law. This bears no visible Belgian Proof Marks. That in itself speaks for itself. Where are the proof marks on these two items?

So then by default it therefore made in China? I thought proof marks were put on assembled firearms not on ALL components, how can they "proof" an action with no barrel?

A slave barrel. Dumoulin if the deal was done in Belgium, would have been committing an offence to offer them for sale, regardless of the final destination, without the bolts and actions being proved. But the simplest answer is maybe to ask the people here. I've sent them an email. I'll post their reply. http://www.dumoulin-rifles.com/

I don't believe that rifles (or rifle parts) which are made in European countries and exported to the U.S. are required to be proofed -- only those sold domestically must meet proofing requirements. Many European manufacturers proof all of their products simply because they don't wish to maintain separate inventories for domestic and export. However, my observation is that the proof marks are typically on the barrel, and not on the action itself. As a matter of fact, I have examined Sako rifles which were exported from Finland to a distributor in England, but subsequently purchased by an American and then exported from England to the U.S. Such rifles bore no proof marks, indicating that the British distributor did not wish to bother with proofing until and unless the rifle was sold domestically. I have no information as to where the action in question was made, but I don't think that the lack of proof marks is an affirmative indicator.

I think it has been said on these forums that one of the biggest difficulties, (or maybe costs) is locating proper scope mounts. Perhaps it might be easier to have it machined to take a regular leupold type mount.

I've looked over the one I have and it wouldn't take much to fit Talley Quick Release rings to the grooves, just a few passes with a mill and there you are. Sunny Hill has rings that fit it but if I recall they are 275$

Snellstrom How well does the 3 position safety work on the one you have?

My safety works good and trigger isn't bad either (and adjustable). Bolt and safety are slightly stiff but smooth. I'm telling you I feel like for the money I got a great deal. Try to find a Mauser action with built in bases (square bridges so to speak) add a 3 position safety, adjustable trigger, good bottom metal and a decent shaped bolt handle to start with and all that for under 400$ I see nothing about mine or on the Sarco page that would or could indicate it being Chinese made. The only trouble with mine is I don't know what to build on it.....

While I don't have the action I do have the firing pin safety assembly mounted on another Mauser. Works fine. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Ramrod What is the story behind that? Somebody bought the action and didn't want the safety?

If my memory serves me correctly when I bought my action I think they were also selling complete bolts with the 3 position safety on them as an a la carte item.

I purchased a couple of actions and a separate complete bolt and trigger assembly from Sarco several years back. I don't know if they are still selling triggers and bolts separately. If my memory is working properly they never listed the triggers, I called them and after going through several people they hunted one up to sell me. I can only guess. If memory serves I bought it here on AR. I was thinking he had bought several and was parting them out. Pieces being worth more. But, I have slept too many times since then. Wish I had bought more than the one. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
