Ok, I do not need help with a caliber. I am sold on the 300 Win Mag and for me, its a great all around caliber. No need to justify, but I have really been happy with it.
Now, my 16 son has decided that he likes my 300. I am more than happy to pass it on to him. With that, my three sons now have good rifles leaving me in the market for new one.
The gun I handed down was a Browning A-Bolt Medallion. It was a great gun, but I am not sure if that is the brand I want to buy again.
Do any of you have any "brand" recommendations? I really liked the Sako Finnlight when I looked at them. I have heard mixed reviews for the X-Bolts. I would like to hear your opinions. I love the A-Bolt action, and its a big selling point for me.
Any advice would be appreciated!

This is highly subjective but it is a quality dependable rifle that fits you (or that you get fit to you). My opinion or what works for me might not suit you at all. That said I recently bought a new M70 FWT and am very pleased with the package. YMMV.

As Blacktailer said, this is highly subjective, however based on forty years of my own experiences, for a number of reasons, I have to give the nod to any of the Savage 110 variants. I made the switch twenty years ago from Remington and Winchester and never found a reason to change. A tip of the hat to Nicholas Brewer for the original design and Ron Coburn for recognizing that and building the new Savage Arms around it.

What about a Blaser? Walter apparently likes them!

If I were buying a new rifle today, it would be either a cz550, a winchester m70, or a ruger m77, in that order. I'm not 100% sure the cz comes in .300 win mag though.

I'm very pleased with my Browning X-Bolt Stainless Stalker 300 Win Mag. Like the A-Bolt, it has a smooth action and is a nicely balanced. Mine was accurate right out of the box.

Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong;
Really hard to make a bad choice with so many quality firearms out there. I have Ruger, CZ, Kimber, Winchester, Savage. If I was looking for a 300 Mag for hunting, I'd probably look hard at the M70 Extreme Weather.
Of course, if you love the A-Bolt, get another.

As mentioned above, what is your budget? I had a finnlight and a Weatherby UL. I kept the Weatherby. If I was to do it all over again, like many said, I would start with a bone stock M70 and work my way up as money permitted.

As expected everybody here overlooked Weatherby. You don't have to spend Supergrade money and buy a MkV, buy a Vanguard (Howa 1500) for the price of a Rem 700. They make them in just about any chambering including 300 Win. Step up a touch with a 300 Wby chambering, you won't be disappointed.
