Can you post or e-mail me a picture? An original 1903 would not have the caliber marked on the receiver, only the model number. StutzenRifles@aol.com

The receiver marking is Kal: 8 NORM. The word NORM is short for Normal, as opposed to Magnum (such as the early 8x60 cartridge). The Made in Germany indicates that your rifle was made between 1938 and 1945, when Germany had annexed Austria. It also indicates that the rifle left the factory with an 8mm barrel and magazine, probably for the 8x57. Are there any proof marks or number on the barrel that are visible? You would also have to remove the stock and look for more markings on the underside of the barrel and receiver to learn more. If you do, be sure to use a set of thin-bit European style screwdrivers, available from Brownells.
